A. Guttman stated that The Artery is now in production.  This includes creative workshops published from
every program.  It is available on line, and print copies are available at the Lakehead Alumni Bookstore
($10.00).

ii). Interdisciplinary Studies
J. Jarman stated that the Media Showcase, entitled, Empowering Hope, had good attendance.  The event showcased student media, film, and other artistic productions.  One of the presentations talked about Artificial Intelligence and plagiarism, a very timely topic these days.

ii). Outdoor Recreation, Parks, and Tourism
L. Potvin stated that the Lake Superior Student Sharing Conference took place in March. It is organized by students, staff, and faculty at UMD Environment Outdoor Education Program and LU ORPT. The conference is an opportunity to bring students and staff together from both campuses to share workshops and experiences outside together. Students presented on topics from Lake Superior Surfing to Size inclusion in outdoor recreation. They also participated in field trips including snowshoeing, cross country skiing, and/or a sight-seeing tour of Thunder Bay. We hope this will become a biannual event rotating between our two campuses. Funded by the VPRI UMD-LU grant and a LSLLN mini grant.

6.

Dean’s Report.
May 5, 2023

Budget:
We have no budget updates yet.  Some Deans are getting budget cuts; however, I will continue to advocate for FCEs for our Faculty.  Wait lists should be set at 20 students.

Enrollment:
There is no update yet with regard to enrollment numbers; I will reach out to Chairs with a reminder to monitor spring/summer course enrollments and submit them to me.

Decanal Search:
A communication bulletin has been sent out with information about the decanal candidates.  Bios are available for review.

Thank you to Jenny Roth with regard to the BA General and all her work as Assistant Dean.

Thank you to Monica and Valerie for serving as Chair and Vice-Chair of Faculty Council.

Thank you to all Chairs and Director for their support.

Thank you to all my colleagues support and patience over the past five years.

M. Flegel thanked Betsy for her five years of service.  She is looking forward to being her colleague.

7.

Assistant Dean’s Report.

J. Roth stated that the calendar changes for the BA General have gone through. She thanked everyone for their continued support.

8.
Other Business:
i)  Education Open-electives Discussion
A. Guttman stated that currently if a student leaves Concurrent Education, their courses must be “forced” for their degree audit.  This happens every time they switch.  Open electives would be easier for Chairs to manage, and for students as well.  Most agreed that this would be a good idea.  The question arose with regard to how to move forward with this suggestion, and if it would be a regulation change.  E. Birmingham stated that she would bring this forward to the Deputy Provost.
