Facilities and Location

The Barrie STEM Hub is under construction at 24 Maple Avenue in Barrie's waterfront district, opening in fall 2026. The facility is located steps from the lake and within an active, walkable neighbourhood with everyday conveniences and strong local transit. GO Transit links connect Barrie to communities across the Greater Toronto Area, offering students broader mobility when needed.

Just 30 minutes from Lakehead's Orillia campus, STEM Hub students can also take advantage of additional services, events, activities, and athletics there.

Inside, the Hub will offer a modern, high-tech environment designed for hands-on learning and applied research.

Facilities include:
  • Flexible classrooms and active learning spaces
  • Dedicated computer labs and student study areas
  • Collaborative research spaces for interdisciplinary projects
Specialized laboratories will support both teaching and research in STEM fields, including:
  • Electronic Motors and Robotics Lab
  • Mechatronics Lab
  • Machine Lab
  • Instrumentation Lab

The Hub will share its building with a Regional Innovation Centre that supports Ontario entrepreneurs and innovators—creating a space where students, faculty, and industry partners can collaborate on real-world challenges and bring new ideas to life.

Live, Learn, and Launch in Barrie

Barrie is a city where you can build a life, not just study. Steps from the Hub, you’ll find coffee spots to meet friends, local music and art, weekend festivals, and waterfront spaces perfect for studying outdoors.

If you love being active, Barrie delivers: paddleboarding before class, biking the waterfront trail, hiking nearby routes, or exploring the lakes and forests that lead into cottage country. In winter, skiing, skating, and snowshoeing are all close by.

Students choose Barrie for its friendly, affordable, community feel — big enough to offer plenty to do, but small enough that it’s easy to feel at home.

Your Gateway to Toronto and the GTA

One of the best parts of living in Barrie is how easy it is to head into Toronto whenever you want a bigger-city experience. Spend your week studying along the waterfront, then take a trip south for a concert, a new neighbourhood to explore, a Raptors or Jays game, or food from around the world.

Toronto's music, arts, sports, shopping, and food scenes are all within reach — perfect for day trips, weekend plans, or meeting up with friends from home. And afterward, you get to return to Barrie's calmer, more affordable lifestyle.

Getting to Toronto is easy:

GO Transit (Train and Bus)

  • Two GO Stations in Barrie: Allandale Waterfront and Barrie South
  • Direct service to Toronto and GTA communities such as Newmarket, Aurora, Vaughan, and North York
  • Free local transit when connecting to or from the GO Train
  • Service seven days a week
  • Ten-dollar weekend passes for unlimited travel
  • Bike-friendly options on buses and weekend trains

By Car

  • About 70–90 minutes to downtown Toronto, depending on traffic
