Research & Innovation Week 2025

Why do we celebrate R&I Week?

Lakehead University's 20th Annual Research & Innovation Week's planning is well underway.  The events (e.g workshops, student poster/oral presentations, and speaker panels) will run from February 24 to February 28, 2025 on the Thunder Bay campus, and from March 4 to March 6, 2025 on the Orillia campus.

Lakehead University's R&I Week delivers on 3 key goals:

  1. To celebrate and showcase research excellence
  2. To raise public awareness about research and its benefits to society, and
  3. To facilitate research collaborations

Research excellence is promoted throughout the year, but especially during our annual Research & Innovation Week. A number of awards are given out during this week, including the Distinguished Researcher Award, the Research Excellence Award, the Building Research Capacity Award, the Innovation Award and many more.

Research & Innovation Week provides an avenue for researchers (faculty, students and research staff) and their partners, to showcase their research. The event includes both graduate and undergraduate student conferences. Achievements in graduate student research are celebrated through the Three-Minute Thesis, GradFlix and Graduate Student Research Excellence awards, which encourages high quality presentations and publications by graduate students.

The contributions of faculty and students are also promoted locally, nationally, and internationally to raise the profile of Lakehead University's research activity and expertise.

Celebrating 20 years of Research & Innovation Week at Lakehead University:

Reflect. Research. Innovate.

Join us as we celebrate our 20th year of Research & Innovation Week at Lakehead University! As we mark this milestone, we reflect on Lakehead University’s research excellence, innovations, and collaborations with communities, partners, and industries alike.

Throughout the Week, we will celebrate the achievements of our researchers, students, and partners, highlighting key advancements and projects that have had, and continue to have, significant impact on society. Engaging presentations, inspiring speakers, and interactive workshops will provide platforms for dialogue on the future of research and innovation—emphasizing emerging technologies, interdisciplinary approaches, and sustainable practices that will continue to shape our world.

As we commemorate our past and celebrate our present, we invite the Lakehead community to join in envisioning our future. Together, let’s pave the way for the next generation of research and innovation that collaboratively and creatively addresses global challenges and drives societal progress.

Join us in honouring our past and present as we look forward to a future filled with new possibilities!
