CERAH Conference call for abstracts!

Are you a student with innovative ideas or research related to aging? Showcase your work at the CERAH Conference: Aging Across the Life Cycle happening October 2-3, 2025! This is a unique opportunity to present your research to a diverse audience of professionals, academics, and community members. Gain valuable feedback, expand your network, and compete for prizes in our student poster competition. We are also seeking abstracts for workshops and oral presentations. Deadline for submissions is February 28, 2025.

Celebrating the 2025 WellU Mental Health Champions!

The WellU Champions for Mental Health initiative, facilitated by Student Health and Wellness, is designed to recognize and celebrate those individuals who create supportive learning environments that prioritize student well-being in their work at Lakehead.

Each year, Lakehead students have the opportunity to nominate faculty and staff who they believe have made a significant impact on student mental health. These champions are selected based on their efforts to foster a sense of belonging, encourage health-promoting behaviours, and promote mental health awareness throughout the campus.

20th R&I Week Application to Participate: Community Research and Innovation Showcase at Intercity Shopping Centre

In collaboration with Science North, Lakehead University and a number of community partners, we will bring back our community research and innovation showcase event to Intercity Mall! Tables or floor space will be available to showcase interactive displays for families to learn what research and innovation at Lakehead University means to us and to give young minds the opportunity to explore.

The Scotties Tournament of Hearts is happening in Thunder Bay the same weekend, and we anticipate a fantastic turnout! Last year's Science Carnival drew over 3,000 attendees, and we're expecting even more excitement this year. Participation in the event is free - your only costs will be any expenses related to your display.

The 2025 Research & Innovation Week committee has developed this application as a means of reviewing all new and returning prospective participants. How can you bring our theme into the hands and minds of Thunder Bay?

Join us as we celebrate our 20th year of R&I Week at Lakehead University! As we meet this milestone we reflect on Lakehead University’s research excellence, innovations and collaborations with communities and industries alike.

Throughout the week, we will celebrate the achievements of our researchers, students and partners, highlighting key advancements and projects which have had, and continue to have, considerable impact. Engaging presentations, inspiring speakers, interactive workshops will further provide platforms for dialogue on the future of research and innovation—emphasizing emerging technologies, interdisciplinary approaches, and sustainable practices that will continue to shape our world in the coming decades.

As we commemorate our past and celebrate our present, we invite the Lakehead community to join in envisioning our future. Together, let’s pave the way for the next generation of research and innovation that address global challenges collaboratively and creatively drive societal progress.

Call for Research and Innovation Film submissions

Submitted films will be uploaded to Research TV, an academic video streaming platform that provides viewers with assurances about the quality of research and the production value of films offering critical perspectives on the world we live in. Films will be uploaded to an exclusive Lakehead University channel and remain on the platform for one year, helping to amplify the reach and impact of your work.

The R&I Week Planning Committee has created this form to collect your film submission ensuring your film meets ResearchTV's technical specifications.

Call for Art Works 2025

Aligned with this year's Research and Innovation Week theme "Celebrating 20 years of Research & Innovation Week at Lakehead University: Reflect. Research. Innovate", Lakehead University faculty, students, staff, and local community members are invited to submit to our on-site juried exhibit. Non-local folks are welcome to submit to our juried virtual gallery.

The Galleries heartily invite works that Reflect. Research. Innovate. in any scholarly field.

Our theme is a rallying call and celebration of the profound benefits of research on people’s lives. It signifies the pursuit of knowledge and understanding that research propels society forward. The theme invites us to delve into the wonders that unfold when curiosity leads the way. Through research, we ignite innovation, catalyze positive change, and envision a brighter future filled with endless possibilities. Research opens new potentials, solves complex challenges, and imagines a better world.

We will review local submissions that can be hung (on hanging wires). High-quality photography or framed printings can showcase 3D media or poetry submissions. We can also showcase digital submissions through four large exhibition screens (looping video or slides). Please note that the onsite video monitors are visual only (no sound). Artworks are on exhibit for one year and photos and videos of accepted works will also remain on the LAIR website exhibit archive.

This year, there will be two on-campus launch events during Lakehead's 20th Research and Innovation Week (February 24 to 28) in Thunder Bay.
