The Department of Anthropology has the privilege of welcoming its most recent faculty member this fall in 2005. Dr. Tamara Varney is our new Bioarchaeologist. She joins us from the Department of Anthropology at the University of Manitoba where she was a term appointed Assistant Professor.
Dr. Varney completed her PhD in the Department of Archaeology at the University of Calgary. Her dissertation dealt with reconstructions of diet and life histories in colonial populations of the Northeastern Caribbean using stable carbon and nitrogen isotopes. Dr. Varney also directs a University of Calgary archaeological field school in Antigua, West Indies. In addition to lecturing for the Department of Anthropology, Dr. Varney will continue her research in Antigua and begin research on 'Socioeconomic Transformations at the North American Prairie-Forest Interface, ca. 100 BC-AD 15'.
Welcome Dr. Varney!
