Launch of the new Herbarium Website

The Claude Garton Herbarium website has a new look!

The Claude Garton Herbarium is located on the third floor (CB3027) of the Centennial Building at Lakehead University. It was established in 1967 and given the universal herbarium code of LKHD.

The present and future focus is to keep it as a regional herbarium of Northwestern Ontario. However, through exchanges in the past, the Herbarium has specimens from other regions of Canada and many other parts of the world.

The Claude Garton Herbarium is open to the public (call to confirm hours of operation). Erika North is the present curator. Loans of specimens are usually reserved for institutions that are carrying out research such as plant distributions and taxonomic revisions.

L.A.B.S. Kingfisher Retreat

The Lakehead Association of Biology Students (LABS) hosted a special event:

It was held on Saturday and Sunday January 26/27 at the Kingfisher Outdoor Education Centre.

Morris & Qin receive NSERC Funding Awards

Media Release: Lakehead University Researchers Receive NSERC Funding Awards

Lakehead University scientists will receive more than $1.899 million from the Natural Sciences and Engineering Research Council of Canada (NSERC) for ground-breaking research projects relating to forestry, the consequences of environmental change, mining, and more.

NSERC grants support excellence in research at Canada’s universities. Twenty-one NSERC grants have been awarded to Lakehead professors to support their research.

These researchers will also receive $395,500 from partners.

“These incredible projects will one day change the world,” said Lakehead President and Vice-Chancellor Dr. Brian Stevenson. “This innovative research once again affirms how Lakehead is meeting our goals of nurturing discovery, innovation, and scholarship,” he said.

Dr. Rui Wang, Vice-President (Research, Economic Development & Innovation), said the NSERC grants recognize the world-class research happening at Lakehead University. “Our researchers will be able to pursue their important work with this support,” Dr. Wang said.
