Biotechnology PhD Students Win Awards at National Conference

 

Biotechnology PhD students Bill Dew and Ali Azizishirazi, from Lakehead's department of biology Aquatic Biotechnology and Ecotoxicology Laboratory (ABEL), have won awards for their presentations at this year's Aquatic Toxicity Workshop. Both students are supervised by associate professor of biology, Dr. Greg Pyle.

At this national conference that took place this week in Winnipeg, Ali Azizishirazi won third place for best student presentation for his talk on Rapid olfactory recovery of wild yellow perch (Perca flavescens) from metal contaminated lakes after short term acclimation to clean water. Bill Dew won first place overall for his presentation on Copper, calcium, and olfaction in fathead minnows (Pimephales promelas): considerations for a chemosensory based Biotic Ligand Model.
