Lakehead U Honouring “40 Northern Lights”

Community invited to nominate people who have contributed to the growth of the University

(Thunder Bay - May 17, 2005) Lakehead University is planning to recognize "40 Northern Lights" - forty men and women who have contributed to the growth and development of Lakehead University over its forty-year history. Their names will be published in the 2004-2005 Annual Report.

"We are looking for members of both the campus community and the Thunder Bay community to nominate individuals who should be recognized as Lakehead U's "40 Northern Lights," says Frances Harding, Coordinator of Publications at Lakehead U and Editor of the Annual Report. "There have been so many who have contributed to the University becoming what it is today, and we would like to hear about these people."

Nominations can be made by sending a letter including their name(s) and a brief description of their contributions to Lakehead University based on the criteria listed below.

All nominations must be received before Friday, July 1, 2005 at 4:30 p.m. Send them to:

40 Northern Lights Criteria:
1. The nominee must be, or must have been in the past, a faculty member, staff, student, alumnus/a, community partner, volunteer, or donor.
2. The nominee must have contributed to one or more of the following:
a) academic excellence at Lakehead University
b) building partnerships between Lakehead University and the community
c) creating a positive environment, experience, or example at/for Lakehead University
3. All individuals are eligible - including those who are deceased.
40 Northern Lights Selection Process:
All nominations will be reviewed by the Internal Relations Committee of Lakehead University, and a final selection will be made by the Annual Report Editorial Advisory Committee as well as a representation from Staff, Faculty, LUSU, the Office of Research, the Board of Governors, the Alumni Association, the Office of Development, and the VP (Academic) and Provost.
