Orillia Campus Faculty and Staff Prepare to Welcome New Students to Orientation Activities
"Our staff will provide new students and their families with the best information and guidance possible, and will make every effort to ensure the new student transition experience is both positive and enjoyable," says Dr. Sally-Ann Burnett, Director of Operations at the Orillia Campus. In addition to many social and academic activities, students will also learn about University life via the University's new digital orientation package, a USB key which acts as a companion to the Orientation website and provides students with helpful informational resources via web links and Adobe Acrobat files.
"We have a great line-up of academic and social activities this year," says Kelli Gray, Student Services Coordinator. "Students can stay abreast of the events by viewing the orientation schedule online at http://orientation.orillia.lakeheadu.ca, and by checking their University e-mail accounts to for all the latest developments."

Smart Car Contest Winner Announcement
In 2006, Lakehead University developed its YaleShmale/Be Smart campaign, which urged students to make smart choices when determining the right university for them. The campaign was launched in three phases, and the University received over 3,000 qualified entries to win the grand prize and other prizes. Lakehead University will present a first-year University student with keys to a new car - the grand prize in Lakehead's YaleShmale/Be Smart awareness campaign.

Mark Kelley - "Making a Difference in our Communities"
CBC's Mark Kelley will present the Campus' first lecture for the 2007-2008 academic year. The lecture is open to all students, faculty, and staff. This season on The National, Kelley introduced his new series, Seven, in which he spent seven days living the lives and exploring the daily challenges of various people in Canadian communities. "The premise of Kelley's show and presentation is appropriate to Changes Challenges Choices," says Burnett. "A great deal of his material engages his audience in these concepts, so we are extremely honoured to welcome him to our campus for a much anticipated lecture and discussion." Kelley has won two Gemini Awards for Best Host or Interviewer in a news information program.
