The future of post-secondary opportunities in Simcoe County, Orillia and Barrie, continued to be top of mind when the Boards of Governors and senior academic and executive staff from Lakehead University and Georgian College met, this morning, in Barrie.
Lakehead University President and Vice-Chancellor, Dr. Brian Stevenson, and Georgian College President and CEO, Dr. MaryLynn West-Moynes hosted the joint breakfast meeting at Georgian’s Barrie campus. The campus was also the site of a day-long series of meetings for Lakehead University’s Board of Governors.
“We are very excited by the strength of our partnership and the innovative new opportunities for local students that are beginning to take shape” said Dr. West-Moynes.
Earlier this year, Lakehead and Georgian announced plans to launch as many as 20 new degree and pathway programs at their campuses in Barrie and Orillia over the next five years. The first of the new programs begin this fall.
“Our shared priority is students,” explained Dr. Stevenson. “However it’s important that Lakehead’s and Georgian’s leadership, from Board members to administration and faculty, deepen their relationships between our institutions so that this partnership continues to grow for years to come.”
