CIFAR is now accepting applications for the 2026-2028 cohort of the CIFAR Global Scholars Program. This unique initiative provides junior faculty the opportunity to develop and lead high-risk, high-reward interdisciplinary research, expand their professional networks and receive focused leadership training in their pivotal first years as independent investigators. 

These experiences accelerate the rise of research leaders who are positioned to drive new discoveries and open new fields of inquiry.

Each Global Scholar:

• Joins one of CIFAR’s interdisciplinary research programs, a two-year opportunity to collaborate and receive mentorship within a close-knit network of leading global researchers.

• Receives $100,000 CAD in unrestricted research support. These flexible funds may be used for research expenses, teaching release, student or postdoc support, conference travel, and more.

• May apply for CIFAR seed funding to pursue high-risk, high-reward interdisciplinary collaborations.

• Gains access to leadership training in key areas, including team leadership, trainee mentorship, science communication and science advocacy.

CIFAR welcomes applicants within the first five years of their first independent faculty appointment, whose research complements the themes and goals of a research program listed below. There are no citizenship or geographic restrictions on who may apply.

The Canada Council for the Arts Molson Prizes are awarded to two persons – one in the arts and the other in the social sciences and humanities, who have distinguished themselves by their outstanding achievements. The prizes are intended to encourage ongoing contributions to Canada’s cultural and intellectual heritage.

These prizes are administered by the Canada Council in collaboration with the Social Sciences and Humanities Research Council of Canada (SSHRC). The winners are chosen by a peer assessment committee, which is appointed jointly by the Canada Council and the SSHRC.

These grants support short-term partnered research activities involving a postsecondary institution and a single organization from the public, private or not-for-profit sectors.

More than just a scholarship, the three-year program offered by the Foundation aims to train engaged leaders with the skills required to turn their ideas into actions and contribute concretely to addressing the challenges of their communities, Canada, and the world. They will benefit from exchanges, networking, and events with the Foundation’s Fellows and Mentors, all of whom are leaders in their respective fields. The field of study of applicants should be broadly related to the humanities and social sciences or human sciences and is directly relevant to the future of Canada.

At the end of the process, about fifteen candidates will be selected to participate in this unique program, receiving a generous scholarship that can reach up to $210,000 in total, including:

• Up to $50,000 per year for three years to cover tuition and living expenses during their doctoral research.
• Up to $20,000 per year for three years to cover the costs of research travel, networking, and participation in Foundation events.

The grant for social science and humanities funds research collaborations with a PI in the UK.  Funds of up to £10,000 tenable for up to 2 years to cover research expenses, collaboration development, or travel in either direction. Applications are open now for the 2025 Knowledge Mobilization Grants! 

The Knowledge Mobilization Grants program offers funding for knowledge mobilization (KM) centred on brain research towards the achievement of meaningful societal impacts. The purpose of the Knowledge Mobilization Grants 2025 funding opportunity is to support projects that generate novel and practical applications of existing research evidence for enhanced brain health. Funded projects will address a critical barrier to the real-world application of research evidence by catalyzing change among policymakers, practitioners such as health care providers, and individuals who experience the downstream effects of policies and practices such as patients and their caregivers.

Brain Canada, through the Canada Brain Research Fund, has allocated $200,000 CAD to the 2025 Knowledge Mobilization Grants program, to be matched by funding provided by sponsors secured by the applicants, for a total possible funding envelope of $400,000 CAD. Grant amounts are flexible to accommodate a broad range of KM projects but overall project budgets must be a minimum of $25,000 CAD and up to $100,000 CAD maximum. 

Open to researchers who have been involved in a Brain Canada-funded grant.

Projects must focus on one or more of the following and include engagement, evaluation and sustainability planning: 

• Development of KM outputs; 

• Dissemination to increase reach and use of KM outputs;

• Implementation of existing research evidence. 

Teams are expected to engage and collaborate with stakeholders throughout their proposed KM project. This iterative approach to co-creation involving the intended users is designed to increase the applicability, distribution, and implementation of the project output(s), and, therefore, maximize their potential to achieve positive impact(s).

Brain Canada is pleased to announce a new cycle of the Momentum Grants program to leverage the strengths of the Future Leaders in Canadian Brain Research Program, which, anchored by a generous gift from the Azrieli Foundation, provides funding to early-career researchers to build a foundation of research excellence and innovation in Canada. 

The 2025 Momentum Grants program aims to enable researchers to build upon their previously funded initial projects and explore new dimensions of their research with the potential to generate breakthroughs in our understanding of the brain.  

This funding opportunity is open to previous recipients of Azrieli Foundation-Brain Canada Early-Career Capacity Building Grants or Future Leaders in Canadian Brain Research Grants. It has a funding envelope of $1,000,000 CAD to support up to five grants of $200,000 over two years. Through the Momentum Grants, we aim to provide researchers with funding to sustain and accelerate their ongoing research, allowing them to capitalize on the initial momentum generated through their seed funding.

The Alzheimer Society Research Program (ASRP) is a successful initiative, within which all regional Alzheimer Societies, the Alzheimer Society of Canada (ASC), partners and donors all collaborate to support research that both alleviates the personal and social consequences of dementia and brings us closer to a world without dementia. 

Building upon the original goals of the BWF Preterm Birth Initiative, a recently convened Pregnancy Think Tank has helped shape the next generation of BWF preterm birth awards. Growing evidence suggests the interrelatedness of the duration of pregnancy, fetal growth, and adverse pregnancy outcomes such as preterm birth, preeclampsia, intrauterine growth restriction, stillbirth, and maternal medical complications including maternal mortality.

Other areas of interest are climate change and environmental impact on pregnancy, complications associated with ART, and epigenome-wide association studies.

We seek to expand the scope of this award mechanism to capture these and other pregnancy outcomes as we believe they will be mutually informative and accelerate discovery. Each award will continue to provide up to $500,000 over a four-year period ($125,000 per year).

The initiative is designed to stimulate both creative individual scientists and multi-investigator teams to approach healthy and adverse pregnancy outcomes using creative basic and translation science methods. The formation of new connections between reproductive scientists and investigators who are involved in other areas is particularly encouraged.
