This Knowledge Synthesis Grants competition is to mobilize, examine and synthesize social sciences and humanities research on The Arts Transformed. The resulting syntheses will identify roles the academic, public, private and not-for-profit sectors could play in promoting more inclusive and equitable societies, and could inform development of effective tools and technologies, robust policies and sustainable practices needed to support the path toward a diverse and inclusive future for all.

Insight Grants are expected to respond to the objectives of the Insight Research program.

Insight Grants support research excellence in the social sciences and humanities. Funding is available to both emerging scholars and established scholars for research initiatives of two to five years.

Stable support for long-term research initiatives is central to advancing knowledge. It enables scholars to address complex issues about individuals and societies, and to further our collective understanding.

Insight Grants support research proposed by scholars and judged worthy of funding by their peers and/or other experts. Insight Grant research initiatives can be undertaken by an individual researcher or a team of researchers working in collaboration.

Applicants choose from one of two streams, depending on the amount of funding required. Both streams will be adjudicated by the same committees, and will receive the same rigorous level of merit review. The deadlines and application process are identical for both; however, the targeted success rate for Stream A is higher than for Stream B.

The Ship Time program allows those holding an NSERC Discovery Grant (DG) to apply for additional funds to access vessels in support of their research programs.

Brain Canada and Parkinson Canada are pleased to launch the 2025 Canadian Open Parkinson Network (C-OPN) Data Challenge — a funding opportunity designed to accelerate Parkinson’s research through innovative use of the C-OPN database. 

C-OPN was launched in 2018 with founding financial support from Parkinson Canada and Brain Canada. C-OPN has to-date recruited 2,318 participants from 11 different sites across Canada. The C-OPN database and biobank includes demographic information, epidemiological and clinical information (including results from clinical assessment tools), neuroimaging data and biobank samples (including genotyping data from DNA samples). We invite researchers and clinicians across Canada to submit proposals that analyze C-OPN’s de-identified participant data to generate new insights into Parkinson’s diagnosis, progression, and care. Up to 4 grants of up to $50,000 each will be funded for one-year projects.

The Natural Sciences and Engineering Research Council of Canada (NSERC) and the Canadian Nuclear Safety Commission (CNSC) are collaborating to enhance research and knowledge, strengthening the science needed for regulatory decisions regarding the safe and secure deployment of small modular reactors (SMRs). Phase I (2022) provided funding to support effective and efficient regulation and regulatory oversight of SMRs. Phase II (2025) aims to build upon the foundational research established in Phase I. This phase will focus on extending existing projects and funding new research endeavours to address critical challenges in the deployment of SMRs. Phase II will support innovative research over a two-year period, emphasizing advancements in reactor safety, efficiency, and environmental impact.

The Canadian Space Agency (CSA) is pleased to announce an opportunity for the Canadian space science community to pursue research and development activities in priority areas of the High-altitude Aerosols, Water vapour and Clouds (HAWC) mission.

HAWC is a Canadian-led initiative that serves as a contribution to NASA's Atmosphere Observing System (AOS). Measurements made by HAWC and the rest of the AOS will target information gaps in near-term predictions of weather, air pollutants/aerosols and surface hydrology, and in long-term climate projections.

With this Announcement of Opportunity (AO), the CSA solicits proposals for projects that will contribute to the following objectives:

• Advance primary HAWC/AOS science objectives;
• Advance applications enabled by HAWC/AOS for a healthy and climate-resilient Canada.

The objective of this AO is to support science and applications development activities related to the HAWC/AOS initiative.

More specifically, through this AO, the CSA seeks to:

• Advance HAWC/AOS science and applications through research and development;
• Increase Canadian participation in the HAWC/AOS initiative;
• Increase Earth system model developments and/or the use of data acquired and processed with CSA support.

Projects selected from this CSA competition must have as their objective to increase scientific knowledge that will contribute to the objectives of the HAWC/AOS initiative and enable the development of applications.
