Indigenous Capacity and Leadership in Research (ICLR) Connection Grants

Eligibility: 

All of the grants for this funding opportunity are reserved for First Nations or Métis not-for-profit organizations, Indigenous not-for-profit organizations serving more than one distinction, or Indigenous postsecondary institutions. The portion of the federal budget commitment dedicated to the Inuit Peoples will be allocated through a separate funding mechanism.

While non-Indigenous institutions may not be the primary applicant in these funding opportunities, they may still participate on a proposal as a partner or have individuals participate on a project team in the role of co-applicant or collaborator, as applicable.

How to Apply: 

The Indigenous Capacity and Leadership in Research (ICLR) Connection Grants will contribute to Indigenous leadership and self-determination in research. The events and activities funded represent opportunities to engage and exchange knowledge on successful ways of conducting Indigenous research that are transformative and contribute to Indigenous-led research, including wholistic and distinctions-based approaches.

This funding opportunity aligns with the tri-agency Setting New Directions to Support Indigenous Research and Research Training in Canada strategic plan and Indigenous communities’ aspirations to provide support for transformative research and training that contributes to innovation and reconciliation.

More specifically, it aims to:

  • support the research priorities of Indigenous Peoples;
  • champion Indigenous leadership, self-determination and capacity in research, to the benefit of Indigenous communities;
  • increase awareness and understanding of Indigenous researchers, students and communities;
  • recognize Indigenous ways of knowing as an integral part of valid and authoritative research;
  • support Indigenous-led strategies and structures that address respectful and mutually beneficial data management and intellectual property rights in Indigenous research; and
  • decolonize Indigenous research through the development of clear structures and resources for Indigenous Peoples to grow research capacity, including creating greater accessibility to granting agency program funding.

Call for Expressions of Interest - Indo-Pacific Scholarships and Fellowships Program

Call for FACULTY EXPRESSIONS OF INTEREST -  EOI Deadline July 20, 2025  (Full submission: August 6, 2025, noon EDT)

We are seeking input from faculty members with existing international collaborations in the Indo-Pacific region who would be interested in developing an outbound mobility program.  Only one institutional application can be submitted.  Funding of up to CAD$ 520,000 (inclusive of a maximum of 15% in administrative costs) from October 2025-March 31, 2028 is available to support Canadian graduate student (scholarships) and faculty mobility (fellowships) - outbound only.   The number of scholarships and fellowships depends on the length of stay of the desired opportunities. Students must be Canadian Citizens or Permanent Residents.  Academics/Researchers must be affiliated with a Canadian University or Research Institution.  Post-doctoral fellows may participate in either category (student or researcher).
 
ELIGIBLE COUNTRIES: Host universities or research institutions must be based in one of the eligible countries and economies in the Indo-Pacific region, as defined by the Indo-Pacific Strategy:
  • Southeast Asia: Brunei, Cambodia, Indonesia, Laos, Malaysia, the Philippines, Singapore, Thailand, Timor Leste, and Vietnam.
  • South Asia: Bangladesh, Bhutan, India, Maldives, Nepal, Pakistan, Sri Lanka
  • Northeast Asia: Japan, Mongolia, Republic of Korea, Taiwan.
  • Oceania: Australia, Fiji, French Polynesia, Kiribati, Marshall Islands, Micronesia, Nauru, New Caledonia, New Zealand, Papua New Guinea, Palau, Samoa, Solomon Islands, Tonga, Tuvalu, Vanuatu.
A selection committee will review submissions and select the winning applicant to complete the full application. Please note that, if successful, the faculty lead will be provided with administrative support from Lakehead International and/or Office of Research Services, as appropriate.

About the IPSFC:

Indo-Pacific Scholarships and Fellowships for Canadians (IPSFC) provides funding for a program of outbound mobility to eligible countries in the Indo Pacific region.   The IPSFC will provide support to eligible Canadian post-secondary academic institutions, university consortia and research organizations to award scholarships and research fellowships to graduate students, academics and researchers at their institutions to study or undertake research in the Indo-Pacific Region.  For this funding cycle, Lakehead International and the Office of Research Services are collaborating to support the development of an institutional proposal, either for Lakehead or with Lakehead as a lead or member of a consortium of Canadian universities.

The IPSFC program will:

  • Enhance the study and research capacity of Canadians in areas related to the Indo-Pacific Strategy
  • Increase connectivity between Canadian and Indo-Pacific institutions dedicated to research and education
  • Support new research streams and academic pursuits in Canada on the Indo-Pacific region.

Study or research must be in line with the Strategic Objectives of Canada’s Indo-Pacific Strategy, including topics such as:

  • Regional diplomacy
  • Regional political change
  • National and regional security
  • Trade and economic cooperation
  • Technological innovation

OECD Cooperative Research Program - Call for Applications

The 2026 call of the OECD Co-operative Research Program in Sustainable Agricultural and Food Systems - is now open.  The deadline is 10 September 2025.

There are two streams: 

(a) Events (Conferences, Workshops, Symposiums) and 

(b) Individual Travel Fellowships (6 to 26 weeks) to another member country (see the list of 30 participating countries)

There are three interdisciplinary research themes:

Theme 1: Managing natural capital to help ensure the availability and quality of natural resources.

This award recognizes an individual under the age of 35 who proposes an innovative and compelling evidence-based policy proposal that will make a positive impact to Canadian society, economy, and/or environment. The CSPC Trailblazer Awards recognize individuals who have demonstrated novelty and creativity through leadership, vision, courage, and commitment and have positively and significantly impacted Science, Technology, Innovation and Society in Canada. These individuals have been instrumental in boldly spearheading change via one or more transformative initiatives while blazing a trail and inspiring others to follow.

CSPC 2025 will present four Trailblazer Awards, one in each of the categories of Policy for ScienceScience for PolicyInnovation Policy, and Science & Society.

CSPC encourages nominations from all disciplines of policy and science (natural sciences, engineering and technology, health and life sciences, social sciences, arts and humanities) and from all sectors (governments at all levels, academia, private and nonprofit sectors, media and others).
