Pilot Project Grant (PPG)

• Up to $75,000 (1-year term)
• To foster novel, high-potential projects, and ideas with a trajectory for major grants with larger granting institutions

Graduate Student Award (GSA)

• $20,000 per year (2-year term)
• Full-time graduate students at the PhD level conducting research relevant to the cure, cause, prevention, improved treatment and/or understanding of Parkinson’s disease or related disorders.

Note: The Graduate Student Award for the Master’s level is not available. 

Postdoctoral Research Fellowship (PRF)

• $45,000 per year (2-year term)
• Candidates must hold a doctoral degree (PhD or MD) obtained in the last 5 years and are exclusively conducting research relevant to the cure, cause, prevention, improved treatment and/or understanding of Parkinson’s disease or related disorders.

Clinician Scientist Research Fellowship (CSRF)

• $50,000 per year or $75,000 per year (2-year term)
• For applicants who are actively pursuing a research project related to Parkinson’s Disease while concurrently undergoing clinical training.
  • $50,000 per year for Residents in Neurology/Neurosurgery
  • $75,000 per year for Clinical Fellows

Clinical Movement Disorder Fellowship (CMDF)

• $75,000 per year (1-year term)
• A training award for applicants who are enrolled in a clinical fellowship for movement disorders.

New Investigator Award

• $45,000 per year (3-year term)
• A project grant to encourage and support early career researchers in the field of Parkinson’s Disease who were appointed to their first faculty appointment within the last 5 years.

CQDM’s Quantum Leap pharma-led funding program for drug discovery research helps SMEs or Canadian universities achieve innovative translational biopharmaceutical research projects. Projects selected as part of the Quantum Leap program focus on developing cutting-edge technologies with the potential to significantly advance the R&D activities of CQDM’s pharmaceutical members. Quantum Leap projects are executed in close collaboration and with the expert support and funds of pharmaceutical members.

CCS Workplace Cancer Research Grants of up to $200k over 2 years are available to support game-changing cancer research that will uncover new knowledge and fill existing gaps to drive risk-reduction and cancer prevention efforts for workers in Canada.

Partnership Engage Grants are expected to respond to the objectives of the Research partnerships program. However, Partnership Engage Grants cannot respond exclusively to the objectives of the Research partnerships program.

These grants provide short-term and timely support for partnered research activities that will inform decision-making at a single partner organization from the public, private or not-for-profit sector. The small-scale, stakeholder-driven partnerships supported through Partnership Engage Grants are meant to respond to immediate needs and time constraints facing organizations in non-academic sectors. In addressing an organization-specific need, challenge and/or opportunity, these partnerships let non-academic organizations and postsecondary researchers access each other’s unique knowledge, expertise and capabilities on topics of mutual interest.

SSHRC welcomes applications involving Indigenous research, as well as those involving research-creation.

The Project Grant program is expected to:

• Support a diverse portfolio of health-related research and knowledge translation proposals at any stage, from discovery to application, including commercialization;
• Promote relevant collaborations across disciplines, professions, and sectors; and
• Contribute to the creation and use of health-related knowledge.

The Forest Sector Investment and Innovation Program (FSIIP) provides funding for strategic investments in the forest sector that:

• improve productivity and innovation
• enhance competitiveness
• support new market access
• provide benefits to Ontario’s broader forest sector
• strengthen regional economies

Support is available under two project categories – business projects and collaboration projects.

The Social Sciences and Humanities Research Council of Canada (SSHRC) has launched a Knowledge Synthesis Grants funding opportunity to assess the state of research knowledge on the topic of Evolving Narratives of Cultures and Histories under SSHRC’s Imagining Canada’s Future initiative. SSHRC has partnered with Canadian Heritage, Genome Canada, and UK Research and Innovation’s Arts and Humanities Research Council to fund up to $1.2 million to synthesize knowledge on this theme.

We have joined together to support research that will foster a deeper understanding of the state of knowledge about the global challenge of Evolving Narratives of Cultures and Histories. Successful applicants may explore topics such as loss of minority languages, traditions and historical narratives in an increasingly homogenized world.

This international funding opportunity will include two streams:

• Stream 1 will be reserved for applications submitted by an applicant or project director affiliated with an eligible Canadian institution.
• Stream 2 will be reserved for applications jointly submitted by two applicants or project directors, one based in Canada and the other in the UK, who are affiliated with eligible institutions in their respective countries. 

The resulting syntheses will identify roles that the academic, public, private and not-for-profit sectors could play in promoting more inclusive and equitable societies and can inform the development of effective tools and technologies, robust policies and sustainable practices required to support the path toward a diverse and inclusive future for all.

The deadline for applications is December 14, 2023.

Germany: DAAD (German Academic Exchange Service) - Short-term Research Stays (Fall Deadline: Oct 16, 2023)

Shastri Indo-Canadian Institute (SICI) is pleased to announce a call for applications for Shastri Student Research in India Fellowships (SSRIF). The SSRIF is a 12-week, CAD$ 7,000 research fellowship for Canadian students enrolled in undergraduate and graduate degree programs (all disciplines), to undertake research projects at Indian member institutions.  Projects must be completed by April 30, 2024.  Students must be Canadian citizens or permanent residents.
