Lakehead University, Orillia Campus, invites applications for a Contract Lecturer in the Department of Sustainability Sciences. Applications are requested to teach:
NRMT 2054 WAO and W01 – Indigenous Peoples and Natural Resources
(lecture and lab)
An overview of Indigenous Peoples and natural resources, with an emphasis on Indigenous participation in forest management. Topics include: historical and modern-day treaties and their impacts on natural resources development and management; what it means to incorporate Aboriginal and treaty rights in natural resources development and management; Indigenous Peoples’ relationship to forest land and resources; natural resources policy developments and practices related to Indigenous issues at international, national, regional and local levels; and Indigenous Peoples’ relationships with provincial and federal governments and stakeholder groups such as environmental non-governmental organizations, natural resources industries and forest dependent communities.
Start Date/Duration: Winter: January 1 – April 30, 2027
Lecture: Wednesday 12:30 – 2:30 pm
Lab: Tuesday 2:30 – 5:30 pm

Qualifications Preferred
A Masters degree in Forestry, Biological Sciences or a relevant/related discipline,
curriculum vitae, and evidence of successful teaching experience. Extensive
experience working with First Nations Communities and a firm understanding of
the culture. Experience with experiential learning and online or alternative modes
of delivery is highly desired.
Compensation
In accordance with Collective Agreement provisions, Contract Lecturers shall be remunerated at one of the three following levels:
Level 1: $8,355 (per HCE)
Level 2: $8,590 (per HCE)
Level 3: $9,059 (per HCE)
