Lakehead University, Thunder Bay Campus, invites applications for a Contract Lecturer in the Faculty of Science & Environmental Studies. Applications are requested to teach:

General Science 1000 YA – Topics in Science

Various topics in science will be covered: the nature of scientific enquiry, matter and materials, energy and controls, structure and mechanisms, earth and space science, and life systems.

As part of a team, the instructor(s) will develop the course content, provide leadership, coordinate guest presentations, lead student discussion, and support students as they develop the skills for teaching science at the Primary-Junior or Junior-Intermediate Levels. The course will be offered for the 2026-27 academic year in-person at the Thunder Bay Campus. An instructor is needed for each of the following modules:

1. Life Systems

2. Structures and Mechanisms

3. Matter and Energy

4. Earth and Space Systems

Start Date/Duration:  

September 2026 – April 2027

Monday/Wednesday 7:00pm - 8:30pm

(each module will run approx. 6 weeks)

Please note: This schedule is tentative and subject to change.  Instructors should refer to the online timetable prior to the start of classes.

Qualifications Preferred: PhD (preferred) with teaching experience in Physics, Chemistry, Biology and Earth & Space science at the post-secondary level. Knowledge of the requirements or challenges of teaching science at the P/J and J/I levels would be an asset. Experience with experiential learning and online or alternative modes of course delivery is highly desired. Candidates lacking the specific degree qualification, but who possess an appropriate combination of experience and other academic qualifications are also encouraged to apply. Experience with experiential learning and online or alternative modes of delivery is highly desired.

Compensation

In accordance with Collective Agreement provisions, Contract Lecturers shall be remunerated at one of the three following levels:

Level 1: $8,355 (per HCE)

Level 2: $8,590 (per HCE)

Level 3: $9,059 (per HCE)
