Nursing Simulation Lab

sim labThe School of Nursing is proud to feature a state-of-the-art simulation lab. The 'sim' lab (SN 1008) is designed to bridge theory to practice in a safe, interactive learning environment which promotes the competence and confidence of our students.

What is Simulation?

Simulation is a learning tool which can assist students to develop the cognitive and psychomotor skills which are essential to safe and effective nursing practice. Simulation is highly adaptable to the needs of the learner throughout the nursing curriculum. Simulation experiences may include the use of manikins and computer software to enhance learning.

New to the Sim Lab is a high-tech manikin, where students experience fully functioning and changeable vital signs (e.g., breathing, heartbeat, pulse), along with digital eye and pupil reactions. Lakehead University’s nursing students can practice their cardiopulmonary resuscitation (CPR) skills, since the manikin has software that provides real-time feedback on the quality and consistency of the resuscitation efforts.
