What Happens in the Nursing Fundamentals Lab?

In the Nursing Fundamentals Lab, students begin by learning therapeutic and relational communication skills when conducting health histories.  Over the academic year, students learn to complete both a focused and complete health assessment, demonstrating proper health assessment techniques (inspection, palpation, percussion, and auscultation).  Students learn to use health assessment tools, including the stethoscope, otoscope, reflex hammer, etc., and interpret their findings and verbalize possible nursing interventions for health restoration, illness prevention, and health promotion.  Students develop their safe, culturally competent professional care, relating knowledge of anatomy and physiology with health assessment techniques and findings.
