Teaching Assistant Positions 2025-2026

Updated September 9, 2025

We are currently reviewing applicants and awaiting budget approvals.  We hope to start notifying successful applicants next week, after which you will receive an email from your supervisor.  Note that some courses (e.g. BIOL1050) will have a prep meeting the week of Sept 2nd in preparation for the first lab.

The Biology Department on the Thunder Bay campus continuously monitors course enrolment and graduate student numbers.  In general, undergraduate TAs are not used for biology courses on the Orillia or Barrie campuses

Once graduate students have been assigned their TA positions (June and July), any remaining positions can be filled by undergraduate students, pending budget approvals.

GOOGLE FORM SUBMISSIONS ONLY!

UNDERGRADUATE ASSISTANTS (UGAs)

*These are positions for undergraduates only!  We cannot hire graduate students for these roles.   Returning UGA applicants are given priority as per the collective agreement.*

Scroll down for application instructions.  Incomplete applications will not be considered.  All lab sections are in-person only unless otherwise specified (e.g. FD1 or WD2, where D=distance)

PLEASE NOTE THAT ALL NEW BIOLOGY TAs ARE REQUIRED TO ATTEND THE IN-PERSON TA TRAINING SESSION on Friday September 5, 2025 at 2:30 pm in CB3013.  If you are an undergraduate student with a class, another time can be arranged. For graduate students, this training is part of BIOL5010FA/FAO.

  • Are you a returning TA?
  • Your current program level (as defined by Lakehead University)
  • A list of courses and/or lab sections you wish to TA.  Be specific for sections and ensure they fit into your current timetable.  Please specify your preferred lab section AND other lab sections you are interested and available for, since you may be considered for other courses if we cannot offer your ideal one.  DO NOT list any labs that you are not interested in or that do not fit your schedule.

You will be asked to attach the following information as a single PDF!  Please name your file with your last name, first name, and date submitted.

  • A cover letter (1 page) that includes:

  • Your current resume or CV.

  • Your unofficial transcript (print from MyInfo).

  • Your timetable for each semester (printed from MyInfo).   Note that most lab TAs are NOT required to attend the lectures for their course.  Some exceptions may apply, as for a marking only course.

We will only consider electronic submissions via the Google Form that have the above information included.

Fall TA may be late considerations for Winter courses, provided you are qualified and later edit your file and/or notify Michael Moore in November.  A new application would not be required.

Successful Fall applicants will be notified mid to late August.  Successful applicants will be notified via email with follow-up by their immediate supervisors.  Note the training session mentioned above.  Many courses will have preparation meetings for TAs the first week of classes, even if labs for students are not running!

The department will keep your application on file if we require additional TAs throughout the semester due to unforeseen circumstances.

Thank you for your interest.
