Lakehead University's Annual Education Fair Hosts Employers from Around the World

(January 11, 2013 " Thunder Bay, ON)

Lakehead University's 2013 Education Fair will be bustling with school boards and teacher recruitment agencies from across Canada and around the world.

The annual event " taking place in the Agora on Friday, Jan. 18 (10 am-3 pm) " provides an ideal venue for Lakehead students and alumni to learn about local, national and global teaching opportunities.

"We have seen increased teacher recruitment in northern and western communities of Canada and there is a competitive demand for Canadian teachers overseas, particularly in the United Kingdom," said Christina Buzzi, Career and Employment Specialist with the Student Success Centre.

This year's Fair will host School Boards from Ontario, Manitoba, Saskatchewan, Alberta, the Northwest Territories and First Nation Education Authorities. Also in attendance will be teacher recruitment agencies from Mexico, the United Kingdom, China and Korea, as well as organizations such as the Ontario Provincial Police and Camp Kodiak. The Fair offers prospective employers the chance to share information about themselves to interested prospects.

"Alternative opportunities to the traditional classroom setting are growing as employers recognize the valuable skills our Education graduates can bring to an organization," Buzzi added.

"Students are encouraged to explore national and international teaching opportunities that offer unique experiences that let them show off their skills," said Dr. John O'Meara, Dean of Lakehead University's Faculty of Education. "Connecting our students with potential employers from around the corner to around the world is why our Fair is such a success."
