Lakehead U & College Reaching Out to Employers

(Thunder Bay - March 3, 2005) Lakehead University and Confederation College, in co-operation with the Thunder Bay Human Resources Centre of Canada, are working together to reach potential employers of students and graduates.

On Thursday, March 10, the University and College are conducting a free information session for employers who are considering hiring a student or graduate, and are also interested in wage subsidy/tax credit programs. The session can be attended in person or via a webcast to allow employers from across the region to attend.

"We feel that it is important for employers across Northwestern Ontario to know about the services offered when looking to hire grads and students," says John DeGiacomo, Manager, Student Placement and Co-operative Education Centre at Lakehead U. "Sometimes it's not possible for employers in Dryden, for example, to come in to town, but this is information that they should have access to. Through the webcast option, distance is no longer an issue."

Topics will include the employment services offered by Lakehead University and Confederation College, including their respective free online job banks for employers to post employment opportunities, and the various government funding support programs available to which employers might apply in order to offset the cost of recruiting students and graduates.

The session will be in Lakehead U's ATAC, Room 2021 at 2:30 p.m. on March 10. The webcast will be broadcast live. For more information on the webcast, visit http://jobs.lakeheadu.ca/webcast

An optional 30-minute tour of the ATAC building will also be available for interested participants at the end of the information session 3:30 p.m.
