The Road Safety Research Office in the Ontario Ministry of Transportation (MTO) would like to invite you and/or other members of your organization to apply for the 2017 Road Safety Research Partnership Program (RSRPP).

This program provides grant funding to researchers in the broader public sector community, enabling them to contribute to policy-relevant road safety research to support Ontario’s efforts to improve road safety and keep the province among the safest jurisdictions in the world. Eligible topics are in the behavioural and social sciences and relate to risk factors, preventive factors, and/or risk groups that are of road safety relevance in Ontario. We encourage prospective applicants to refer to the Ontario Road Safety Annual Report for an overview of safety statistics.

Upon feedback from previous applicants, we have introduced a change to the application process. This change will ease the burden on both prospective applicants and on the evaluation committee. This year, applicants will be asked to submit a two-page proposal by March 31, 2017. Applicants who pass this screening stage will be invited to submit a full application.

The AMS Postdoctoral Fellowship provides support to a core of the most promising researchers at a pivotal time in their careers. Candidates should be embarking on a period of full time post-PhD degree studies and wish to add to their experience by engaging in research in Canada or abroad. The fellowships are intended for emerging scholars to complete work already started on projects featuring the study, analysis, and interpretation of past practices, philosophies, and/or epistemologies related to human health, health care, and/or disease or the education of health professionals, or to begin a new project in the field.

The AMS Project Grant is designed to support small budget proposals on projects featuring the history of medicine. AMS defines the history of medicine as the study, analysis, and interpretation of past practices, philosophies, and/or epistemologies related to human health, health care, and/or disease using methods appropriate to the discipline of History. Projects that consider the Canadian context are particularly welcome. Projects might include requests for seed money to develop research initiatives. Proposals are expected to advance an aspect of the history of health, health care or disease or the education of health professionals that could benefit the broader community of practitioners in the field. There is an expectation that during the period of these grants or within a year of their completion, one or more conference papers or publications/presentations will result from this funding.

The Organic Federation of Canada (OFC), in collaboration with Dalhousie University’s Organic Agriculture Centre of Canada (OACC), are pleased to announce the Call for Letters of Intent for research in Organic Science Cluster III (2018-2023).  This Letter of Intent process is being conducted in anticipation that Agriculture and Agri-Food Canada’s (AAFC) next Agricultural Policy Framework will include another Science Cluster Initiative.

The Law Foundation of Ontario invites applications for its Community Leadership in Justice Fellowships for the 2017/2018 or 2018/2019 academic terms. Fellows are senior employees of public interest organizations and are funded to spend a period of time within an academic year in residence at an Ontario university or law school, or at an Ontario community college.

PURPOSE OF THE FELLOWSHIPS

Through these Fellowships, the Foundation brings together leaders from public interest organizations with Ontario universities, law schools and community colleges, with a common focus on improving access to justice.

Conference and Workshop Grants are for amounts up to $20,000. In accordance with the mission of the Foundation, priority is given to events that foster the creation of an international community of research scholars in anthropology and advance significant and innovative anthropological research.

Conferences are defined as public events that are comprised primarily of oral and poster presentations to a larger audience of anthropologists. Priority is given to major conferences sponsored by large international anthropological organizations (e.g., the European Association of Social Anthropologists, European Anthropological Association, Pan African Anthropological Association, and Latin American Anthropological Association) that serve as their annual or periodic meetings. The majority of the funds granted to such conferences is expected to be used towards expenses for international scholars who are making presentations at the conference and would not otherwise be able to attend.

Workshops are defined as working meetings that focus on developing and debating topical issues in theoretical anthropology. Workshops involve a small group of scholars who meet for a sufficient period of time to deal intensively with the topic. Priority is given to those workshops that devote the majority of time to discussion and debate rather than to the presentation of papers. It is expected that workshops will result in a publication.

Application deadlines for Conference and Workshop Grants are June 1 and December 1. The June 1 deadline is for conferences and workshops to be held no earlier than January of the following year. The December 1 deadline is for conferences and workshops to be held no earlier than July of the following year.Decisions will be announced within 4-6 months of the deadline.

Quality of Life Research Grants have been created to support quality of life cancer research that has the potential to make a significant impact on the burden of disease in patients, survivors and caregivers. These grants are intended to explore psychosocial, survivorship, symptom control, supportive care and end-of-life issues, research gaps, needs and opportunities, or models for survivorship care. The grants are meant to accelerate and focus the knowledge gained from scientific findings, in the short or long term, into outcomes that will result in the reduced burden or enhanced quality of life for cancer patients in Canada and elsewhere.

The goal of this grant program is to support and accelerate research addressing the creation and application of new knowledge relevant to improving quality of life (as described above). The program is particularly interested in research that has the potential for practical applications within the domain of knowledge translation. Applications can be from multidisciplinary teams or individual investigators. Multidisciplinary collaboration is encouraged.

The Impact Grant program is intended to contribute to the scientific idea ‘pipeline’ by supporting significant progression in cancer research programs, from individual investigators or multidisciplinary teams, that are anywhere in the continuum from basic high impact discovery to translational work of direct relevance to the clinic. Impact Grants will accelerate and focus the knowledge gained from scientific findings, in the short or long term, into outcomes that will significantly advance understanding of cancer and improve scientific knowledge, which will result in optimized patient care, improved cancer treatment or reduced cancer burden. Impact Grants are to provide funding to support ideas that promote major advancement in research programs, whether at the fundamental discovery stage (such as studies involving model organisms that demonstrate potential for impact) through to applied research (such as patient or population based proposals). Note that these grants are not intended to support incremental scientific advances and should not be considered a “regular” research grant and are not intended to solely support research infrastructure.

Regional/provincial grants are available to parent organizations, publicly funded district school boards, non-profit organizations and post-secondary institutions working in partnership with parents.

These projects, designed to enhance parent engagement on a regional or province-wide basis, must fall under at least one of the following categories:

• Parents as Partners
• Welcoming District School Board and School Environment for All Parents
• Skill-Building Opportunities for Parents
• Enhancing Communication between School and Parents

Please note that regional/provincial grants are not for individual schools. School councils may apply for Parents Reaching Out Grants for School Councils.
