The Joint Programming Initiative (JPI) “More Years, Better Lives – The Potential and Challenges of Demographic Change” seeks to enhance coordination and collaboration between European and national research programmes related to demographic change. This funding opportunity “Aging and place in a digitising world” is concerned with the ways in which the health and wellbeing of older people, at all stages of later life, is supported and promoted through the design of the social and physical environment, access to opportunities to learn, and the use of technologies of all kinds. Innovative, transnational and interdisciplinary collaborative projects that investigate the potential of technology, place and learning in relation with the older adult.

Research Areas

1. Technology: How existing and emerging technologies can improve the quality of life, contribution and social engagement of older people.
2. Place: How individuals experience the places where they live, work and engage with others, and how learning and technology enhance or diminish quality of life.
3. Learning: How opportunities for learning can best be made available, by public, private and third sector means for the older adult.

Each application shall address the topic of Technology (1). Applications may also address topics of Place (2) and Learning (3), in relation with Technology (1). That is: applications may address Topic 1, Topic 1 and 2, Topic 1 and 3, or Topic 1, 2 and 3 together. The interaction between technology, place and learning is important to the health of older people, and research which explores them may produce important new findings to inform policy.

The Canadian Science Policy Fellowship is now accepting applications from prospective fellows interested in undertaking a 12-month policy project with a host government department or agency. Applicants can apply to up to six approved projects in their area(s) of interest.

Eligible applicants must be:

• Faculty members at Canadian universities or PhD graduates
• Canadian citizens or permanent residents
• Able to negotiate a leave of absence from their university or employer, as applicable

The 2017 cohort of fellowships will begin in September 2017. Approved fellows receive remuneration from their hosts and professional development training and networking events facilitated by Mitacs.

The Advanced Clinical Practice Fellowship (ACPF) program provides registered nurses (RN) or nurse practitioners (NP) the opportunity to have a focused self-directed learning experience to develop clinical, leadership or best practice guideline implementation knowledge and skills, with support from a mentor(s), the organization where the RN/NP is employed, and RNAO. This initiative is aimed at developing and promoting nursing knowledge and expertise, and improving client care and health outcomes in Ontario. Clients are defined as individuals, families, groups or communities.

The length of the program is 12 weeks (full-time) or 20 weeks (part-time) for a total of 450 hours.

The Hannah Summer Studentship offers undergraduate students an opportunity to study and learn the techniques of historical research and to encourage future serious study of medical history. We welcome applications from students enrolled in all undergraduate faculties in universities in Canada.

Special Call for Proposals: Royal College & AMS/Phoenix Call-to-Caring Funding

This year we’re excited to announce a special call for applications to the Royal College / AMS CanMEDS grant competition. In partnership with the AMS Phoenix Project, we aim to fund projects that leverage the 2015 CanMEDS framework to instill and sustain compassion, empathy and professional values in the environments in which health professionals learn and work.

This grant of up to $25,000 supports research development or implementation of projects that advance competency-based training and assessment for specialists, as defined by CanMEDS.

Objective

To support research, development, and/or implementation of projects that advance compassion and caring as realized through the intrinsic CanMEDS roles, in order to realize the mission of social accountability in the training and continuing professional development of specialists.

Eligibility

Applicants must be involved in teaching and/or medical education research in Canada. Applications may be individual or joint, involving one or more departments, disciplines, or faculties of medicine. It is not necessary to be a Fellow of the Royal College or a physician; however, a Fellow of the Royal College must contribute meaningfully to the project.

The objective of the Idea to Innovation (I2I) Grants  is to accelerate the pre-competitive development of promising technology originating from the university and college sector and promote its transfer to a new or established Canadian company. The I2I Grants provide funding to college and university faculty members to support research and development projects with recognized technology transfer potential. This is achieved through defined phases by providing crucial assistance in the early stages of technology validation and market connection.
