Attached, please find the Call for Proposals to identify a knowledge network host(s) and establish a Learning and Leading for Equity Knowledge Network.

This Call for Proposals is part of Phase II of the Knowledge Network for Applied Education Research (KNAER). We are building on what has been learned from Phase 1, and are now supporting the establishment of four thematic knowledge networks that use a systems approach to knowledge mobilization. In November 2016, two out of the four thematic knowledge networks were established around the themes of Mathematics and Well-Being. The Mathematics Knowledge Network is being led by the Fields Institute for Research in Mathematical Science while the Knowledge Network for Student Well-Being is being co-led by the Hamilton Wentworth District School Board and the Offord Centre for Child Studies. This Call is in search of a Network Host(s) for the Learning and Leading for Equity Knowledge Network. The Equity Knowledge Network Host(s) will be the lead(co-lead) organization responsible for coordinating the collaborative activities of the network partners. The Equity Knowledge Network Host(s) will establish and lead the network by bringing together diverse partner organizations to form the network; mobilize evidence from educational research and professional practice connected to diversity and equity; facilitate the use of evidence-based practices for instruction to support improved educational achievement for racialized and marginalized students; and contribute to Ontario’s Equity and Inclusive Education Strategy in partnership with educators, researchers and stakeholders from across Ontario.

Please note that the deadline for submissions is June 12^th, 2017. There will be an information session to learn more about the equity thematic network and the role of the network host. 2017-2018 Banting Postdoctoral Fellowships Competition 

The Banting Postdoctoral Fellowships program is designed to support world-class postdoctoral researchers. The fellowship provides $70,000 per year for two years. The program is open to both Canadian and international researchers who have recently completed a PhD, PhD- equivalent, or health professional degree. Applications must be completed in full collaboration with the proposed host institution. 

The 2017-2018 competition was launched in April 2017 and the application deadline will be September 20, 2017 at 20:00 EDT. Please note that institutions may have internal deadlines.

Banting Postdoctoral Fellowships (Although the Banting deadline is September 20 2017, applicants and their supervisors should contact Research Services (ahacquo1@lakeheadu.ca) far in advance of the deadline if they are submitting an application):  Please note that for the purposes of your submission, Lakehead University is willing to make the following contributions:

If you are successful with a Banting, The VP (RI) will contribute a minimum of $5,000.  In addition, the VP (RI) will contribute an additional $2,500 if matched by an additional $2,500 from the respective Faculty dean for a potential institutional contribution of $10,000.  The match from the Dean must be requested by PDF supervisors and confirmed in writing.

Eligibility

This call is open to Canadians, permanent residents of Canada, and citizens of developing countries pursuing doctoral studies at a Canadian university.

Who can apply

To be eligible, you must meet the following requirements:

• You must be a citizen or permanent resident of Canada, or a citizen of a developing country.
• You must be enrolled at a Canadian university at the doctoral level (when you submit your application, you must have completed several courses of the doctoral program, but not necessarily all the courses).
• Your research proposal must be approved by your thesis supervisor. Please provide proof.
• Your proposed field research must take place in one or more developing countries and be conducted for a doctoral dissertation.
• Your field research must correspond to IDRC thematic priorities. Applications proposing field research outside these thematic areas will not be considered.
• You must provide evidence of affiliation with an institution or organization in the developing region(s) in which the research will take place.
• You must have completed coursework and passed comprehensive exams before taking up the award.
• You may not be in receipt of two or more active IDRC awards at the same time. No time overlaps will be permitted.

The Mitacs Globalink Research Internship (GRI) is now accepting faculty submissions for Summer 2018. GRI pairs faculty in Canada with international undergrads for 12-week research projects from May to September.

• All disciplines are eligible
• Top-ranked senior undergrads travel from Australia, Brazil, China, France, Germany, India, Mexico, Tunisia, and Saudi Arabia
• Faculty can submit multiple projects and re-submit projects from previous years

Ontario Genomics is pleased to announce that Round 9 of Genome Canada’s Genomic Applications Partnership Program is now open.

The Genomic Applications Partnership Program (GAPP) funds downstream research and development (R&D) projects that promote the commercialization and translation of genomics-derived technologies which address real world opportunities and challenges identified by industry, government, not-for-profits and other “Receptors” of genomics knowledge and tools.

The program provides a unique opportunity for Receptor organizations to collaborate with an ’omics researcher, and to leverage their R&D investments with public funding.

Key Program Highlights:

• Budget: $300K – $6M (total)
• Co-funding: 1/3 Genome Canada (max), 1/3 Receptor (min), 1/3 Other
• Award duration: 1 – 3 years
• Stage: Downstream R&D/validation/pilot
• Funding recipient: Genome Canada award to academic partner only

Pathways to Prosperity invites proposals for funding of up to $8,000 per project for research projects related to the following P2P national research themes:

• Role of the Settlement Sector and Not-for-Profits in Canada

• Health and Well-being of Immigrants in Canada

Up to six proposals will be funded in this round. Funding must be used for primary research related to one of the themes and should represent the first step in a larger, cross-regional project for which outside funding will be sought. As a Pathways to Prosperity project, the research must have a policy or practice component.
