2015 Centres of Excellence for Commercialization and Research (CECR) program competition

Eligible Recipient Organizations

Organizations eligible to receive funds are not-for-profit corporations created by universities, colleges, not-for-profit research organizations, firms, and other interested non-government parties.

How to Apply: 

The 2015 competition is seeking to fund new centres of excellence that have a robust business model, which includes strong commercialization (including new technologies, goods and services), and sustainability plans. Only proposals that meet the threshold of excellence will be funded.

In addition, this competition is seeking to support the operation of research and commercialization centres that bring together people, services, and research infrastructure to position Canada at the forefront of breakthrough innovations. Centres applying to the 2015 CECR competition must demonstrate how the proposed centre will address priorities of the Government of Canada, including:

  • Environmental science and technologies;
  • Natural resources and energy;
  • Health and related life sciences and technologies;
  • Information and communications technologies; and
  • Management, business and finance.

CIGI-INET Research Grants

How to Apply: 

Through their joint grants program, The Centre for International Governance Innovation (CIGI) and the Institute for New Economic Thinking (INET) seek to create an environment nourished by open discourse and to empower the next generation of scholars with the necessary support to accelerate and advance new and important thinking on economic issues. Grants will be awarded primarily to individuals or teams affiliated with academic institutions, think tanks, and other centres of vital research worldwide. CIGI and INET encourage scholars from around the world in economics as well as in related fields, such as history, sociology, sociology, anthropology, psychology, political science and the physical sciences, to submit grant proposals.

Ovarian Cancer Academy Award

The overarching goal of the Ovarian Cancer Academy is to develop successful, highly productive ovarian cancer researchers in a collaborative research training environment.

 

Pilot Award

The OCRP Pilot Award supports conceptually innovative, high-risk/high-reward research that could ultimately lead to critical discoveries or major advancements that will drive the field of ovarian cancer research forward.

 

Teal Innovator Award

The OCRP Teal Innovator Award supports a visionary individual from any field principally outside of, but not exclusive of, ovarian cancer to focus his/her creativity, innovation, and leadership on ovarian cancer research. The Teal Innovator Award will provide the Principal Investigator (PI) with the funding and freedom to pursue his/her most novel, visionary, high-risk ideas that could significantly impact the field of ovarian cancer research or patient care. The proposed Teal Innovator must be highly recognized in his/her field and present evidence of this recognition.

Quality of life research grants

How to Apply: 

Quality of Life Research Grants have been created to support quality of life cancer research that has the potential to make a significant impact on the burden of disease in patients, survivors and caregivers. These grants are intended to explore psychosocial, survivorship, supportive care and end-of-life issues, research gaps, needs and opportunities, or models for follow-up care. The grants are meant to accelerate and focus the knowledge gained from scientific findings, in the short or long term, into outcomes that will result in the reduced burden or enhanced quality of life for cancer patients in Canada and elsewhere.

FY14 Military Infectious Diseases Applied Research Award (MID-ARA)

Eligibility: 

All applications MUST specifically address at least one of the MID-ARA Focus Areas related to combat-related or trauma-induced wound infections. Research projects incorporating high-throughput drug screening and/or in silico modeling, as well as applications focused on areas other than those listed below should NOT be submitted.

How to Apply: 

Applications to the Fiscal Year 2014 (FY14) Defense Medical Research and Development Program (DMRDP) Military Infectious Diseases Applied Research Award (MID-ARA) are being solicited for the Assistant Secretary of Defense for Health Affairs, Defense Health Program (DHP), by the U.S. Army Medical Research Acquisitions Activity (USAMRAA).

The goal of the DMRDP is to advance the state of medical science in those areas of most pressing need and relevance to today’s battlefield experience. The objectives of the DMRDP are to discover and explore innovative approaches to protect, support, and advance the health and welfare of military personnel, families, and communities; to accelerate the transition of medical technologies into deployed products; and to accelerate the translation of advances in knowledge into new standards of care for injury prevention, treatment of casualties, rehabilitation, and training systems that can be applied in theater, in the clinical facilities of the Military Health System (MHS), or in civilian health care facilities.

OCE-NSERC Smart Drinking Water: Call for Expressions of Interest

Eligibility: 

OCE and NSERC will fund collaborative projects that undertake research and development in the area of smart water distribution systems that demonstrate a true benefit to Ontario's water and energy systems.

Funding from OCE will not exceed $100,000 per project. To qualify for OCE funding, applicants must secure a minimum of 1:1 cash plus in-kind matching from industry, of which the cash contribution must be 50 per cent of the amount requested from OCE.

The Ontario Centres of Excellence (OCE) and the Natural Sciences and Engineering Research Council of Canada (NSERC) are partnering to fund innovative projects across Ontario that focus on cost-effective technologies for asset management and infrastructure rehabilitation to conserve water and energy in water distribution systems.
