Raag-Rung Music Circle Donates to the Department of Music Scholarship

$5000 was donated by the Raag-Rung Music Circle towards the Lakehead University Department of Music Scholarship. The funds were raised at the 36th Annual Evening of Fabulous Food and Marvelous Music of India held at the Italian Cultural Centre, October 19, 2019. The evening featured a performance of classical Indian music by internationally-acclaimed maestros Abhijit Banerjee, tabla and Snehasish Mozumber, mandolin.

Dr. Chugunov receives Innovation in Teaching Award

Dr. Evgeny Chugunov is a recipient of the inaugural Lakehead University Innovation in Teaching Award 2019.  Here is what Dr. Chugunov had to say for this honour:

"I would like to thank Lakehead University, my students and colleagues for giving me the opportunity to become a better teacher and for recognizing my work with the Teaching Innovation Award 2019!"

Dr. Evgeny Chugunov at a podiumIn early April Dr. Evgeny Chugunov visited Russia, where he participated in the piano conference at the Novosibirsk State Conservatory and gave lectures and piano masterclasses at the Faculty of Arts and Design of Altai State University, Barnaul, and at the Faculty of Music of Moscow State Pedagogical University.

With permission of the Department, a limited number of spots are available in all Performance Secondary courses.  Instruction in these courses is individual lessons (one-on-one) scheduled at a mutually agreed upon time with the instructor.  All Performance Secondary courses run from September to April.

Roy Coran Big Band supports the Lakehead University Department of Music

The 2018-19 Roy Coran Concert Series was a tremendous success! A portion of proceeds from tickets sales culminated in a cheque presentation to Lakehead University’s Music Department. A total of $2,000 was designated to the Roy Coran Memorial Scholarship for an aspiring music student enrolled in the Music Program at Lakehead University.

Music Minor

The Minor in Music program is available to students who have a keen interest in music but have other career goals.  It consists of 4 FCEs balanced between Music History, Music Theory, Performance and music electives.
