Applying for a Lakehead University OLSAS application fee waiver

Required documentation
  1. Lakehead University, Bora Laskin Faculty of Law, Application for OLSAS Fee Waiver Form
  2. Cover letter (explaining applicant's financial situation). The letter must include your OLSAS account username, address, email address, and phone number.
  3. Copies of documents supporting current financial situation, including, but not limited to, the following:
    • Notice of Assessment from the previous tax year.
    • Most current Social Assistance payments, if any.
  4. Copy of OSAP Notice of Assessment or Government Student Assistance from other Provinces (for both the Provincial and the Federal portions), for all the years attending a post-secondary institution. The documents should include your name and account number.
  5. Proof of citizenship (birth certificate or Canadian passport).
  6. If you have a current approved LSAC Fee Waiver, please include in application.

Important Information

  • You must be a Canadian citizen/permanent resident who is planning to apply to the first-year J.D. program at the Bora Laskin Faculty of Law
  • Only applicants to either the first-year J.D. program are eligible to apply for an OLSAS fee waiver. 
  • The OLSAS fee waiver applies only to the $115.00 University Fee for the Bora Laskin Faculty of Law
  • OLSAS fee waivers are not retroactive and must be obtained prior to submission of the OLSAS application. Fee waivers are only applicable to the current admissions cycle.
  • In order to process your request for an OLSAS fee waiver, you are required to submit the completed, signed and dated application accompanied with all the relevant documentation. Incomplete applications will not be processed.
  • Additional documentation may be requested in order to fully process your fee waiver application. 
  • The Faculty of Law will notify you and OLSAS, via email, of the approved Bora Laskin Faculty of Law Application Fee Waiver.
  • Application and documentation are kept on file for two years and then confidentially shredded.
  • Please allow at least two weeks for processing of your Fee Waiver Applications.
  • To be considered for a fee waiver the income and financial support you have received from all sources during the year preceding your fee waiver request must not exceed the amount normally required to provide for your basic needs (food, clothing, and shelter) at a subsistence level where you have been living. Bank accounts, RRSPs, and assets that can be readily converted into cash or used as security for a loan are regarded as income.
  • The basic criterion for granting a waiver is the absolute inability to pay for the service. The need criterion is considerably more stringent than for other financial aid processes. Only those with extreme need should apply.

Applying for an LSAC fee waiver

As of August 1, 2020, Canadian LSAC Fee Waiver Forms and all supporting documentation must be submitted directly to LSAC. Individual Canadian law schools will no longer process LSAC fee waiver applications. Please visit the LSAC website for more information.
