Jodie Murphy-Oikonen Receives Graduate Mentorship Award
We are pleased to share that Dr. Jodie Murphy-Oikonen of the School of Social Work was the recipient of the Lakehead University Graduate Mentorship Award.
Jodie Murphy, MSW, PhD, is an Associate Professor in the School of Social Work at Lakehead University, where she teaches and mentors students at both the undergraduate and graduate levels. She brings more than 20 years of clinical practice experience in healthcare, working directly with women, children, and families in acute healthcare and public health.
Her research examines the intersections of health, social work, and justice, with a focus on sexual assault, addictions, and mental health. Dr. Murphy has led and collaborated on numerous interdisciplinary studies on survivors’ experiences with sexual assault, police challenges in sexual assault investigations, sexual assault evidence kits, neonatal abstinence syndrome, addiction in pregnancy, and perinatal bereavement. Her work is widely published and presented at national and international conferences.
