Lakehead University raised $57,725 on Giving Tuesday

November 30, 2017 – Thunder Bay and Orillia, ON

Lakehead University raised $57,725 on Giving Tuesday (November 28th), thanks to the generosity of alumni, donors, faculty, staff, students, and friends of the University.

Giving Tuesday is a relatively new Canadian initiative for charitable giving.  Seen as the “opening day of the giving season,” it is when individuals, groups, and organizations, join together to share their commitment, rally for their favourite charitable causes, and think about others.

“We’re thrilled with the turnout,” said Deb Comuzzi, Lakehead University’s Vice-President, External Relations. “Last year was the first time Lakehead University participated in Giving Tuesday, and we raised nearly $42,000 – so to top that by more than $15,000 is very exciting.”

Dr. Michel Beaulieu, President and Chair of the Alumni Association of Lakehead University, said he was extremely happy with how much was raised for student financial aid.

“Thank you to everyone who donated online and in person at Lakehead Thunder Bay and Lakehead Orillia,” he said. “Your contributions will help fund scholarships and bursaries that will enhance the student experience at Lakehead University.”

A special thank you to the Alumni Association of Lakehead University, which matched the first $24,500 in gifts.
