In Conversation continues with a focus on the chemistry of cooking

November 10, 2016 – Orillia, ON

Lakehead Orillia’s popular speaker series, “In Conversation,” continues with an afternoon presentation with Dr. Thamara Laredo, known for making the topic of chemistry fun and intriguing.

Her presentation, Dissecting a Cookie: the Chemistry of Cooking, takes place at the Orillia Public Library on Tuesday, November 15 at 2:00 pm.

If you have ever made cookies and wondered why we use certain ingredients and what really happens when the cookie dough is baked, then you will enjoy this talk! Dr. Laredo will use chemistry to answer these questions and more. After this interactive lecture, you will understand the chemistry of cooking, and you will never be able to look at a cookie in quite the same way!

ThamaraThamara Laredo teaches Chemistry and Environmental Sciences courses at Lakehead University. She is a physical chemist with interests in environmental research and food science, including a particular emphasis on the development of solid unsaturated fats and heat resistant chocolate. She enjoys making science fun and accessible for everyone.
