Media Release: issued Thursday, April 14, 2016

Georgian College, Lakehead University and the Simcoe County District School Board (SCDSB) have committed to work together to support international students. On April 15, they will sign a Memorandum of Understanding (MoU) and commit to linking the K-12 and post-secondary education systems for international students in Simcoe County. A signing event will take place at the SCDSB Education Centre from 10 – 11:30 a.m.

“This collaboration will enhance the experience for international students studying in Simcoe County,” says SCDSB Director of Education Kathi Wallace. “It will also strengthen our relationships with Georgian College and Lakehead University as we work together to provide quality programs and opportunities for all of our students.”

“Georgian enjoys mutually-beneficial partnerships with Lakehead and the school board on many initiatives. Today’s announcement is another example of our joint efforts to provide the best experience for students from elementary through postsecondary. Eleven hundred International students from more than 60 countries study at Georgian every year, enriching our campus life and our communities, and we look forward to welcoming more,” says Georgian College President and CEO Dr. MaryLynn West-Moynes.

"This partnership will not only support our respective international student recruitment goals, it will further the internationalization of our classrooms, campuses, and communities, which offer many economic, social, and cultural rewards,” states Lakehead President & Vice-Chancellor Dr. Brian Stevenson. “By coordinating our efforts with the Simcoe County District School Board and Georgian College, we are able to present new and connected pathways to the exceptional educational opportunities available in Simcoe County."

The MoU will continue for a period of three years, at which time it may be extended by agreement of all parties.
