Lakehead University's Dr. David Greenwood has been renewed as the Canada Research Chair in Environmental Education.

"History shows that concern for the environment is not a passing fad, but a steadily growing movement of diverse people and groups worldwide," Dr. Greenwood said.

"My current research seeks to examine the relationship between environmental and social justice movements from the mid-19th century to the present," he said.

"By better understanding how these movements converge and diverge, we can better express a holistic vision for social, ecological, and economic justice in education at all levels including here at Lakehead University."

Dr. Greenwood, a professor in the Faculty of Education, said he will continue building local and international networks that help deepen and expand the field of place-based, environmental and sustainability education.

"Congratulations to Dr. Greenwood on his renewal," said Dr. Andrew Dean, Lakehead's Vice-President, Research and Innovation.

"Environmental education is an important and relevant topic. The research that Dr. Greenwood has already done in this area and his proposed five-year plan significantly adds to this subject," Dr. Dean said.

Dr. Greenwood's Chair is funded by the Social Sciences and Humanities Research Council.
