Visiting professor to share Lake Simcoe research findings at Lakehead

How has Lake Simcoe been affected by humans over the past millennium? For anyone interested in Lake Simcoe and the history of the area, Lakehead University is offering an opportunity to hear from an expert. 

The Department of Sustainability Sciences is pleased to announce a presentation by Dr. Francine McCarthy, professor of Earth Sciences at Brock University and president of the Canadian Association of Palynologists. Dr. McCarthy will visit Lakehead University’s Orillia campus to speak about her research on the “human impact in Lake Simcoe over the past millennium – insights from the fossil record.”  

“Dr. McCarthy is an extraordinary scientist whose research provides a fascinating millennial perspective about Lake Simcoe and the history of land use in the region,” said Dr. Florin Pendea, associate professor with Lakehead’s Department of Sustainability Sciences.

Members of the public, along with students, staff and faculty, are invited to attend. The talk takes place on Thursday, February 19 at 3:30 pm in room 1025, Simcoe Hall, 500 University Avenue. Admission is free.
