Pick your pleasure – Lakehead prof shares findings about chocolate and coffee

February 11, 2015 – Orillia, ON

Here’s a chance for you to learn about some unconventional research at Lakehead that focuses on two simple, everyday pleasures. Mark your calendars for Lakehead University’s next In Conversation event at the Orillia Public Library on Tuesday, February 17 featuring Lakehead’s Dr. Thamara Laredo.

Dr. Laredo, Assistant Professor with the Departments of Sustainability Sciences and Chemistry, was motivated by curiosity to explore the dilemma of melting chocolate and caffeine overload. Is there a way to avoid the melting mess of a chocolate bar that you’ve left in a warm place, and is there a way to adjust the caffeine we ingest in our coffee?

“This is a great example of the kind of research we conduct at Lakehead that can answer interesting and relevant questions,” explained Laredo, who teaches Chemistry and Environmental courses.

Laredo’s presentation, “Chocolate or Coffee – Pick Your Pleasure,” takes place on Tuesday, February 17 from 6:15 – 8 pm. Admission is free, but registration is required and is accepted by email at info@orilliapubliclibrary.ca; by phone at 705-325-2338 or in person at the Library (36 Mississaga St. West).
