Math Skills Development (P/J)
EDUC 7033 YA

The Math Skills Development course has been created for students who are either
concerned about their mathematical competency and/or wish to strengthen their
mathematical understanding.

This course is taught following the principles of reform math, consistent with the 2006
revised Ontario curriculum emphasis on teaching for understanding rather than on
rote application of rules.

It will provide opportunities to increase your understanding of math concepts through
hands-on activities, discussion, and problem solving. Basic mathematical concepts at the Grades 4-7 level will be addressed; however, you will not be taught algorithms in order tomemorize and apply them.

Lakehead Awarded Three New Canada Research Chair Positions: Public Invited to Candidate Presentation January 12

An NSERC Tier I Canada Research Chair (CRC) is a much-coveted position among universities due to the prestige of the position and also because there are a finite number of CRCs awarded throughout the university system. Canada Research Chairs are critical to maintaining Lakehead University's research profile among institutions of higher learning.

Lakehead has recently been allocated three new CRCs, one of which is an NSERC Tier I Canada Research Chair in Biorefining Processes/Bioenergy.

The University is pleased to invite members of the University and broader communities to an open presentation by Dr. Zhen Fang, Candidate for NSERC Tier I Canada Research Chair in Biorefining Processes/Bioenergy Research. Dr. Fang presents "Biomass Conversion and Nanocatalyst Synthesis."

This open presentation takes place:

Date: Tuesday, January 12
Time: 2:00 p.m.
Location: ATAC 5035

Two more candidate presentations take place on January 14 and January 19. Details about these presentations are forthcoming and will also be posted to the Calendar of Events.

Comments regarding the candidacy of Dr. Fang should be forwarded to Dr. Rui Wang, Vice-President (Research), within 24 hours after Dr. Fang's presentation, to rwang@lakeheadu.ca or in writing and addressed to the Office of the Vice-President (Research), located in UC 2003.

All comments will be kept in the strictest of confidence.
