Survey Reinforces Graduate Success Rate
(May 15, 2007 - Thunder Bay, ON) The results of the recent University Graduate Employment Rate Survey are in, and they show that Lakehead University's 2003 graduates outpace the provincial average of university graduates in finding employment six months and 2 years after graduation.
- At six months, 93.8% of Lakehead graduates were employed compared to 92.2% for the system overall.
- Two years after graduation in 2003, 98.1% of Lakehead graduates were employed compared to 96.8% for the Ontario system overall.
The survey measures the employment rate of students employed or looking for work six months after graduation and two years after graduation. It focuses on the employment rate of students employed or looking for work, as opposed to students who are continuing their education or are out of the work force for personal reasons.
"The Graduate Employment Rate Survey reinforces our knowledge that Lakehead University produces high-quality graduates whom employers want to hire," says Dr. Fred Gilbert, President of Lakehead University. "Students and faculty should applaud these results as they clearly show the employability of our students."
The survey also asks whether graduates are working in an area that is related to their university education. Lakehead graduates again exceed the provincial average with 87.2% working in their field at 6 months after grad compared to 79.3% across the province, and 88.3% at 2 years versus the province's average of 85.2%.
The Graduate Employment Survey is a province-wide study conducted annually by the Research Division of the Ontario Universities' Application Centre under the auspices of the Ministry of Training, Colleges and Universities and the Council of Ontario Universities. With the exception of a 0.5% dip below system average in 2002, Lakehead University graduates have consistently performed above the provincial average since 1999.
