Lakehead University Staff Gears Up to Welcome New Students for Orientation Week
"Our role is to provide new students and their families with the best information and guidance possible," says Robert Perrier, Manager of Undergraduate Recruitment at the University. "The first few weeks of school will be a major time of transition for all new students. New students often have many questions, and our staff continually works to provide the best information and guidance possible." Some of this guidance and information will also be presented with the aid of the University's new digital orientation package, a USB key which acts as a companion to the Orientation website and provides students with helpful informational resources via web links and Adobe Acrobat files.
"Over the past year, Admissions & Recruitment staff members, in conjunction with Residence Services, and the Lakehead University Student Union (LUSU), have worked tirelessly to ensure the new student transition experience is both positive and enjoyable," says Brendan Hughes, Lakehead's New Student Orientation and Commuter Services Officer. "We have a great line-up of academic and social activities this year, and students can stay abreast of the events by viewing the orientation schedule online at http://orientation.lakeheadu.ca." Incoming students are also reminded to check their university e-mail accounts to stay updated with all the latest developments.
Among other exciting activities to take place during the next few days, newcomers can enjoy: the Alumni Friends and Family BBQ on Saturday, September 1; the Survivor Games for new students and an Aboriginal student orientation on Sunday, September 2; a mature-student orientation on Tuesday, September 4; and the President's Dinner and President's Cup award presentation on Wednesday, September 5.
Some events require RSVPs, which can be made by visiting the Orientation website. Orientation guests will also receive the opportunity to win a scenic helicopter tour of Thunder Bay, courtesy of Dr. Fred Gilbert, President of Lakehead University.
Lakehead is proud to offer an alcohol-free Orientation week, as the safety of all students is the University's first priority.
