"Lakehead Celebrates" Recognizes Community Partnerships: Annual Event Features Three Outstanding Initiatives in Fun-Filled Evening

(Thunder Bay, ON - September 25, 2007) For the past two years, Lakehead University and various community partners have welcomed guests to Lakehead Celebrates, an annual fundraising event which uses proceeds to provide Lakehead University students with bursaries and scholarships. This year's celebration should be no exception to past successes as organizers have prepared an exceptional line-up of fine cuisine and enjoyable entertainment. The third annual Lakehead Celebrates takes place on Thursday, October 11, 2007, and all community members are invited to participate in what is becoming a special Lakehead tradition.

This year, the event also will start to honour outstanding community initiatives that demonstrate the power of collaboration. Three initiatives and their partners will be named at the reception.

"This event generates a number of wonderful opportunities," says Don Campbell, Chair of Lakehead University's Board of Governors. "It gives Lakehead the opportunity to thank the individuals and organizations who have contributed to our programs and initiatives throughout the year, while subsequently helping our students with the funds that ticket sales raise."

"Community partnerships are integral to the ongoing success of this institution," adds Dr. Fred Gilbert, President of the University. "This year's event will feature three successful initiatives and collaborations that are making a difference, information about which we are eager to share with our guests on October 11."

A dazzling musical performance by Flamenco Caravan, an abundance of tapas, hors d'oeuvres, gourmet delicacies, red and white wines, and the signature "Lakehead and Friends Martini" are sure to tickle and satisfy the senses of all guests.

Business or evening attire is required, though stiletto heels are not recommended due to the flooring at the venue. Lakehead Celebrates takes place from 6:00 p.m. to 10:00 p.m. in the University's Hangar. Tickets may be purchased now for $90 per person. Tables also may be reserved for groups of eight people. All proceeds will benefit students directly. To order tickets, or for additional information, interested parties may contact Debra McKever at 343-8300.
