Lakehead U Psychology Student Honoured for Leadership, Scholarship, and Stewardship
"The Graduate Students' Association is proud to give this honour to Sarah -- who has shown outstanding efforts in all areas of her education and extra curricular activities," says Dr. Tanya Spencer, Awards & Alumni Affairs Psychology Graduate Student Association, and Lakehead U psychology faculty member. "In particular, her nominators mentioned her efforts representing students at the departmental level, and keeping students informed of those activities while promoting a friendly and welcoming program."
There were many exceptional candidates for this award, Dr. Spencer says, which demonstrates the student activity and involvement in the Psychology program at Lakehead U. Nominations were based on the following:
Leadership: a role model to colleagues, efforts to maintain a high-quality program,
Scholarship: academic excellence as exhibited by high-quality output, a commitment to empirical evaluation and critical thinking, and
Stewardship: promoting a pleasant all-around (e.g., extra-curricular) student experience.
"I feel very honoured to have been recognized by my peers," Sarah says. "This is something I didn't expect. I think I demonstrated these qualities because I enjoy the collegiality of the students in the Psychology program and at Lakehead U, and I want to share these experiences with other students so this collegiality continues. I believe many students in the PSGA demonstrate these qualities and that is what makes the Lakehead U Graduate Psychology program stand out."
Other nominees were commended for balancing commitments to research and family, creating a good reputation for psychologists, happily sharing knowledge with peers, and arranging fun extra-curricular activities, Dr. Spencer says.
