Suzanne (Sue) Bowness

Suzanne (Sue) Bowness is a writer with over 18 years of experience. Launching her career as online editor at the late weekly Saturday Night magazine, Sue started her business CodeWord Communications (www.codeword.ca) in 2002 to consult on editorial projects and create content for a variety of clients, many of which are in the higher education sector.

Sue holds a PhD in English from the University of Ottawa (her dissertation traced the development of Canadian magazines in the nineteenth century as a site for Canadian literary community) and so is familiar with many aspects of the academic world, from grant writing to conference presentations and papers. Today she also writes regularly for university communications departments and magazines, producing everything from research profiles to alumni feature stories to shorter blog posts and website content.

As she finished her PhD, Sue also started teaching writing courses and now teaches part-time in the Professional Writing and Communications graduate certificate at Humber College, where she helped to develop the curriculum.
