Dr. Sheela Hota-Mitchell

I have a Ph.D. degree from Western University (London, Ontario, Canada) in microbiology and immunology, and completed postdoctoral work in virology (genomic sequencing and characterization) in 2000.  I then bid farewell to the lab and merged my love of science and writing to create and run Write On Science, where I have been a freelance academic writer and editor.    I have worked on diverse projects for numerous clients, including several at Lakehead University and the TBRRI.  Some of my roles were:

-editor of manuscripts for publication in scholarly journals;

-editor of grant proposals submitted to funding agencies (including CIHR, NSERC, Alberta Ingenuity, Alberta Cancer Board, Canada Foundation for Innovation, Gates Foundation Grand Challenges);

-writer, layout artist, and web designer for a multiple sclerosis patient information brochure and website;

-writer and editor of manuscripts, patient brochures, and literature reviewer for Biomira, Inc. (now called Oncothyreon), a cancer vaccine development company;

-writer of detailed reports indicating the outcomes and recommendations emerging from a Parkinson’s disease symposium and a University of Calgary institutional site visit;

-project manager (coordinating physicians, clinical coordinators, and a statistician) and writer of a draft environmental scan for  Calgary stroke rehabilitation resources (contracted by the Calgary Health Region);

-writer and literature researcher for medical modules for MDconversation, an online educational resource for patients; and

-content editor and writer for both EBA Engineering Consultant Ltd.’s (now called Tetra Tech EBA) in-house quarterly digest and the Calgary journal “Stroke Rounds.”

I write in a clear and concise manner. My strong editing skills will ensure that your work is free of spelling and grammatical mistakes and conforms to the appropriate style guidelines. I can understand complicated medical concepts and I am comfortable working in fields outside my immediate area of expertise. I possess excellent researching abilities that make it possible for me to create unique and interesting results.

I look forward to assisting you with any of your academic documents.
