This funding opportunity seeks submissions to develop a resource-lean functional test battery that encompasses all the essential elements of an active population including heartrate elevation, multi-planar movement, and multitasking, to help inform the management and recovery of individuals following an acute concussion or mild traumatic brain injury (mTBI) and reduce the risk of future brain and/or MSK injury.

Brain Canada is delighted to announce its collaboration with the ALS Society of Canada (ALS Canada) to launch the ALS Canada-Brain Canada Trainee Program 2024.  

PURPOSE

Established as a registered charity in 1984, the Law for the Future Fund provides financial support for legal research conducted under the auspices of the Canadian Bar Foundation. The Fund was established by donations from individual lawyers, law firms, legal organizations and foundations, as well as corporations.

The Fund has supported many worthwhile initiatives since it was established in 1984. Examples include systems of justice, racial equality, court reform, law and ethics in health care, gender equality and conflict of interest.

SCOPE 

The Law for the Future Fund sponsors projects that are of national interest and/or are of benefit to the general public. Projects must be in one of the following fields: 

• Legal research
• Legal education 
• Legislation and law reform 
• Administration of justice

Only Canadian projects will be considered.

eniors Community Grants, ranging from $1,000 up to $25,000, help community organizations’ ability to provide opportunities for greater social inclusion, volunteerism and community engagement for older adults, from the safety of their homes or other safe environments.

The Seniors Community Grant Program funds local not-for-profit community groups and organizations to deliver projects, supports and resources that help older adults (aged 55+) to:

• live independently
• live with safety and security
• stay connected to their community
• avoid isolation
• achieve greater financial security and social connections

Programming can be delivered remotely, virtually, or in-person.

The intent of this RFP is to encourage proposals for the implementation of strategies that will measurably improve the quality of care of persons with mBC. Projects should use optimal measures to improve care for persons with mBC, where treatment goals focus on improving quality and length of life as there is, to date, no known cure. We welcome a diversity of projects that will improve the outcomes of persons with metastatic breast cancer  including pilot projects that could lead to larger efforts that could potentially impact clinical care. Well thought out and tested modifications allow for more efficient and effective patient care. Providing appropriate resources and education to people with mBC, their caregivers, and family members is crucial to help ensure they are informed and can participate in the shared clinical decision-making process. While the digital delivery of care can provide persons with mBC with flexibility and health care providers with further reach, submissions that underscore the importance of person-to-person care are also appreciated.

The specific objectives of this funding opportunity are to:

• generate new and ongoing population estimates of the use of controlled substances in Canada;
• generate new and ongoing knowledge of trends related to controlled substances from wastewater analyses and from other relevant sources in jurisdictions across Canada; and
• ensure the sharing of the generated population estimates and real-time trends of the use of controlled substances with local, provincial, territorial, national and international knowledge users, through a publicly accessible website.

Between the 1950s and mid-1990s, LGBT members of the Canadian Armed Forces (CAF), the Royal Canadian Mounted Police (RCMP), and the federal public service were systematically discriminated against, harassed, and often fired as a matter of policy and sanctioned practice. In what came to be known as the “LGBT Purge,” people were followed, interrogated, abused, and traumatized. The LGBT Purge was implemented at the highest levels of the Government of Canada and was carried out with callous disregard for the dignity, privacy, and humanity of its victims (LGBT Purge Fund website, 2020).

VAC invites applications for research that explores the intersectionality of LGBT Purge survivors’ experiences and characteristics, conduct a qualitative research study of LGBT Purge survivors’ experiences when seeking support from and accessing VAC programs and services, and make recommendations for VAC programs and services to account for the identified LGBT Purge Survivor characteristics’ specific considerations when applying for VAC programs and services.

Connection Grants are expected to respond to the objectives of the Research Partnerships program.

These grants support events and outreach activities geared toward short-term, targeted knowledge mobilization initiatives. These events and activities represent opportunities to exchange knowledge and engage with participants on research issues they  value. Events and outreach activities funded by a Connection Grant can often serve as a first step toward more comprehensive and longer-term projects.

Connection Grants support workshops, colloquiums, conferences, forums, summer institutes or other events or outreach activities that facilitate:

• disciplinary and/or interdisciplinary exchanges in the social sciences and humanities;
• scholarly exchanges between those working in the social sciences and humanities and those working in other research fields;
• intersectoral exchanges between academic researchers in the social sciences and humanities and researchers and practitioners from the public, private and/or not-for-profit sectors; and/or
• international research collaboration and scholarly exchanges with researchers, students and non-academic partners from other countries.
