A KRESCENT program Post-Doctoral Fellowship is an “in-training” award intended for applicants with a PhD, MD or equivalent degree. The objective is to attract and foster young investigators to initiate and/or continue training in kidney research.

An awardee may not be in receipt of another major personnel award at the same time as holding the Post-Doctoral Fellowship from the KRESCENT program. However, the KRESCENT program will consider approving supplemental funding if a minor stipend has been provided from a local or provincial funding agency.

Applications in English must be completed via the on-line application system proposalCENTRAL. A Wenner-Gren grantee may apply for the Engaged Anthropology Grant ($5,000 maximum) upon completion of the final reporting requirements for the Dissertation Fieldwork or Post-Ph.D. Research Grant.

This grant is designed to enable grantees to return to their research locale to share their research results with:

• The community  in which the research was conducted, and/or
• The academic/anthropological community in the region or country of research.

The Foundation realizes that the appropriate form of engagement will vary depending on the type of project that was undertaken and the location of the research.  Emphasis should be on disseminating the research results of Wenner-Gren funded research.  Applications are evaluated according to the project’s capacity for producing engaged participation, cultivating mutually beneficial collaborations, and forging equitable relationships among all parties involved. This grant does not support the continuation of research activities, the establishment of websites, or other forms of engagement with western anthropologists who typically have access to the international academic community and literature.

Partnership Grants are expected to respond to the objectives of the Insight and/or the Connection program. Proposals exclusively for partnered research training initiatives (see below) are expected to respond, instead, to the objectives of the Talent program.

These grants provide support for new and existing formal partnerships over four to seven years to advance research, research training and/or knowledge mobilization in the social sciences and humanities through mutual co-operation and sharing of intellectual leadership, as well as through resources as evidenced by cash and/or in-kind contributions.

Partnership Grants are intended for large teams working in formal collaboration between postsecondary institutions and/or organizations of various types. For more information, see the definitions of formal partnership and partner organization.

The quality of training, mentoring and employability plans for students and emerging scholars will be evaluated as an important part of a proposed initiative. Please see SSHRC’s Guidelines for Effective Research Training for more information on how students and emerging scholars can meaningfully participate in proposed initiatives.

The intellectual leadership and governance for a new or existing formal partnership may come from within the research community and/or from partner organizations from the public, private and not-for-profit sectors. However, only an eligible institution may administer the grant funding (see Eligibility).

SSHRC invites applicants and their partner organizations who wish to propose formal disciplinary, interdisciplinary, interinstitutional, international and/or cross-sector partnership arrangements to apply for support through this funding opportunity. Funds are available to support a variety of formal partnership initiatives in all of the disciplines and themes eligible for funding at SSHRC.

There are two categories of partnerships that may request support:

• Existing partnerships: Support to foster new research and/or research-related partnership activities that are distinct from the partnership’s previous/ongoing partnership activities.
• New partnerships: Support to foster new research and/or research-related partnership activities that are undertaken by partnerships in their initial stages.

Insight Development Grants are expected to respond to the objectives of the Insight program.

Insight Development Grants support research in its initial stages. The grants enable the development of new research questions, as well as experimentation with new methods, theoretical approaches and/or ideas. Funding is provided for short-term research development projects, of up to two years, proposed by individuals or teams.

Insight Development Grants foster research in its early stages, but are not intended to support large-scale initiatives. Long-term support for research is offered through SSHRC’s Insight Grants.

Proposed projects may involve, but are not limited to, the following types of research activities:

• case studies;
• pilot initiatives; and
• critical analyses of existing research.

Projects may also involve national and international research collaboration, and the exploration of new ways of producing, structuring and mobilizing knowledge within and across disciplines and sectors.

The Project Grant program is expected to:

• Support a diverse portfolio of health-related research and knowledge translation projects at any stage, from discovery to application, including commercialization;
• Promote relevant collaborations across disciplines, professions, and sectors;
• Contribute to the creation and use of health-related knowledge.

The Canadian Wood Fibre Centre (CWFC) is seeking proposals to fund projects which address the objectives of the Canadian Wood Fibre Centre and Government of Canada priorities in the forestry sector.

The deadline for submitting applications is no later than 11:59 p.m. Pacific Standard Time, Thursday, December 20, 2018. Late applications will not be accepted.

The Canadian Wood Fibre Centre is a research branch within Natural Resources Canada’s Canadian Forest Service. As part of the Forest Innovation Program, the CWFC supports research, development and technology transfer activities that contribute to bring innovative solutions to the Canadian forest industry. The objectives of the CWFC are to develop, improve and share wood fibre-related knowledge and tools in support of forest management decisions in three research areas:

• ·         Tools and Techniques to Identify, Measure and Optimize the Use of Wood Fibre Attributes;
• ·         Next Generation Enhanced Forest Inventory; and
• ·         Growing Resilient Forests for a Sustainable Fibre Supply.

This program is seeking proposals to reduce the reliance of rural and remote communities on diesel fuel for heat and power. The program, which plans to support a suite of diverse projects across Canada, will be evaluated against a range of criteria. Proposals will need to demonstrate local community support and outline the community benefits of the project, particularly for Indigenous communities. The project must fit into one of the following streams:

Program streams:

• BioHeat to reduce fossil fuel use through the installation, retrofit or investigation into the feasibility of biomass heating or combined heat and power systems for community and/or industrial applications.
   
• Innovative demonstrations to reduce diesel use through the validation of novel renewable energy, energy efficiency, energy storage, and smart-grid technologies and applications.
   
• Deployment of renewable energy technologies for electricity including hydro, wind, solar, geothermal, and bioenergy. Heat may also be produced, but the primary purpose of the project must be electricity production.

Mitacs Elevate provides two years of postdoc funding valued at $60,000/year plus extensive customized professional development training ($7,500/year non-cash value). Postdocs:
 

• Manage a long-term collaborative research project with a company or not-for-profit
• Develop business-ready skills in leadership, financial literacy, management and negotiation, project management, problem solving and much more
