Alfred P. Sloan Foundation
Ship Time program
This Ship Time program is aimed at all NSERC-funded researchers who intend to use a vessel for their DG-supported research in the coming years. It applies to: the Department of Fisheries and Oceans (DFO)/Canadian Coast Guard (CCG) vessels, undersea vehicles operated by the Canadian Scientific Submersible Facility or other similar research platforms, and any other Canadian or foreign vessels crewed in conformance with the Canada Shipping Act, 2001.
Ship Time grants support ongoing DG research programs. These grants recognize the high costs associated with chartering research vessels in Canada and abroad. Applicants must hold a Discovery Grant (or be successful in the current DG competition) to be eligible to receive a Ship Time grant. Recipients of Ship Time grants must use the funds as described in the application. Requests to use an alternate vessel will be assessed on a case-by-case basis.
Ship Time applicants may apply for more than one vessel at a time. Should the two vessels be part of the same project (e.g., a remotely operated vehicle and a support vessel), only one application is to be submitted.

2021 Sony Research Award Program Invitation
FACULTY INNOVATION AWARD
Global research and development at Sony enables us to foster innovative ideas, which could ultimately lead to future technology advancements and company growth. In order to speed up and expand the creation of new ideas, we would like to partner with universities. This partnership will help cultivate advanced concepts and fertilize our own research and development.
FOCUSED RESEARCH AWARD
Solid research is the underlying driving force to crystallize fearless creativity and innovation. While we are committed to run in-house research and engineering, we are also excited to collaborate with academic partners to facilitate exploration of new and promising research. The Sony Focused Research Award provides an opportunity for university faculty and Sony to conduct this type of collaborative, focused research. The award provides up to $150K USD* in funds, and may be renewed for subsequent year(s).
Canada Council for the Arts Molson Prizes
The Canada Council for the Arts Molson Prizes are awarded to two persons – one in the arts and the other in the social sciences and humanities, who have distinguished themselves by their outstanding achievements. The prizes are intended to encourage ongoing contributions to Canada's cultural and intellectual heritage.
These prizes are administered by the Canada Council in collaboration with the Social Sciences and Humanities Research Council of Canada (SSHRC). The winners are chosen by a peer assessment committee, which is appointed jointly by the Canada Council and the SSHRC.
- If you are interested in being nominated for one of these awards, please contact Dr. Batia Stolar, Associate Vice-President, Research & Graduate Studies, at avp.research@lakeheadu.ca
Career Awards for Medical Scientists (CAMS)
The Career Awards for Medical Scientists (CAMS) is a highly competitive program that provides $700,000 awards over five years for physician-scientists, who are committed to an academic career, to bridge advanced postdoctoral/fellowship training and the early years of faculty service.
Eligibility Note: BWF will make up to two additional awards to clinically trained psychiatrists who focus on research at the interface between neuroscience and psychiatry. These proposals must clearly demonstrate evidence of integration of neuroscience and psychiatry in project design.
Resident Faculty Scholar Grant Program
The Resident Faculty Scholar Grant Program will support a faculty member, or small groups of faculty members, at institutions in the United States or Canada, to utilize BWF Headquarters as a site for mini-sabbaticals/project incubation allowing the dedicated protected time to initiate or accelerate their work when aligned with BWF priorities and goals. The nature of the mini-sabbaticals/project incubation sessions will be quite flexible and would be envisioned to support work at the BWF Headquarters for two to 6 months. Funds would be available to support travel, lodging, meetings, and faculty salary. We anticipate two proposals to be awarded in the first year of applications. Office space, computer access, meeting facilities and other dry laboratory resources would be available on site.
We encourage all stages of seniority of faculty to apply.
BWF's Career Awards at the Scientific Interface (CASI)
BWF's Career Awards at the Scientific Interface (CASI) provide $500,000 over five years to bridge advanced postdoctoral training and the first three years of faculty service. These awards are open to U.S. and Canadian citizens, permanent residents, and temporary residents
CMHC Gold Roof Award for Knowledge to Action
Gold Roof Award for Knowledge to Action recognizes initiatives that close the gap between what is known from excellent research and what is done with that knowledge in the housing sector.
Specifically, this research:
- acknowledge innovative initiatives that have made outstanding contributions to the National Housing Strategy’s priority areas
