Shastri Mapping & Matching Interest Workshop (SMMIW) 2022-23 (One Health)

How to Apply:

Shastri Mapping and Matching Bi-national Interest Workshop proposes to conduct partnership development meetings in the areas of mutual interest to Indian and Canadian researchers. The proposed workshops aim to provide a learning mechanism that will help researchers from both countries to come together and provide a framework of developments and trends on mutual themes of interest, share their research findings and explore collaborations and partnerships.

The workshops aim to support research relevant to international development and new, emerging, and under-researched areas relevant to identified themes. In addition, these meetings will promote twinning partnerships for advanced research and development by providing opportunities to work across the bi-national board to enhance learning. As an outcome, the proposed workshops would also facilitate universities/institutions in India and Canada to establish research partnerships to create innovations and social impact by engaging with relevant industries. Finally, these workshops will be dedicated to achieving longstanding and successful bi-national partnerships through developing joint research collaborations by seeding relationships through national and international funding sources.

It is proposed that virtual bi-lateral workshops with larger groups of identified researchers will be held initially to identify and establish interests from both sides. Then, the scholars identified through these virtual workshops will be invited to more focused virtual and in-person, face-to-face Shastri Mapping and Matching Workshops.

Themes

The identified areas for such workshops are as follows, but not limited to:

  • Agriculture
  • Health Care- One Health and Public Health
  • Artificial Intelligence
  • Quantum Technologies
  • Sustainable Life
  • Green Economy
  • Pandemic Preparedness
  • Water Management
  • Specialised and Advanced Manufacturing
  • Waste Management and Urban Design

These online courses could range from 15 to 30 lectures spaced out over 15 days to 90 days, depending on the course type and the number of sessions per week.

Necessary communication is underway with member institutions in India/or Canada to devise the modalities of the course based on niche areas. Furthermore, as subject specialists, faculty members from member institutions will develop the course curriculum for virtual courses and deliver the lectures.

For the purpose mentioned above, senior administrators/subject experts from member institutions in India / Canada will be contacted to understand the basics of the online courses and will float virtual courses on a theme which is most relevant in the present era and can help the students in upscaling skills in their domain.

Scope

The short-term course can be based on relevance, which plays a significant role in scaling up a career to the next level. A few best courses such as retail management, inventory control, the infrastructure of logistics, health and safety, labour relations, recruitment, Interview psychology, strategy analysis, Cyber Security, Smart Green Technologies and Small-Scale Nuclear Reactor Generators, digital humanities, communicative French etc. are quite popular among students, researchers and young faculty.

National Housing Strategy Longitudinal Outcomes Research Grant

How to Apply:
The Partnership Grants to support CMHC’s National Housing Strategy (NHS) Longitudinal Outcomes Research is a funding opportunity to support research and related activities that examines:
• The long-term health, socio-economic, and climate change outcomes of investments in affordable housing
• The links between housing, health, socio-economic, and environmental factors at the household and community levels

The research may guide evidence-based decision making related to housing provision and the built environment.

The overall goal of the Partnership Grants for National Housing Strategy Longitudinal Outcomes Research is to support prospective cohort research on outcomes of NHS and other investments in affordable housing. CMHC recognizes that housing research requires a multi-disciplinary approach with interjurisdictional data. These public policy challenges transcend the boundaries and parameters set by respective disciplines. As a result, we aim to assess housing investments using four main themes in a holistic approach informed by a GBA+ analytical lens:

• Health, including mental wellbeing and physical health, both self-reported and through a life sciences approach of all ages of the population, including adequate housing (effect of mold and pest, sleep hygiene, air quality, heating and cooling), and suitable housing related to overcrowding.
• The social outcomes of housing investments on populations in housing precarity, and the links to justice system, with household stability, safety and security, displacement, and social inclusion.
• Economic outcomes related to employment and income.
• Better built environments, and the influence on climate change and energy poverty impacts, community resilience of the housing sector, and the related impacts on populations experiencing vulnerability.
