The Health System Impact Fellowship objectives are to:

• Support impact-oriented career paths and elevate the career readiness of doctoral trainees and post-doctoral researchers studying Health Services and Policy Research (HSPR) or related fields by supporting embedded research opportunities within health system organizations (e.g., public, private for-profit, not-for-profit, and Indigenous health organizations) outside of the traditional university environment, enriched competency development (e.g., leadership, project management) and opportunities for mentorship and networking.
• Expand and enrich the traditional doctoral and post-doctoral training environment by engaging health system organizations in preparing a cadre of promising doctoral trainees and post-doctoral researchers for impact-oriented careers in academic and health system organizations; and
• Provide health system organizations with direct opportunities to realize and harness the benefits that research-trained individuals can bring to such organizations for rapid learning, improvement and evidence-informed decision-making that will advance the Quadruple Aim and health equity.

Funds Available

The CIHR Institute of Circulatory and Respiratory Health (ICRH) Travel Award competition is to support trainees registered in a master's or doctoral program, or at the post-doctoral or post-health professional degree stage to present their research (oral or poster), relevant to the Institute's strategic priorities and mandate, at national or international meetings, conferences or symposia.

The ICRH Travel Award competition does not support travel for the following purposes:

• Research skill(s) development or update;
• Exchange programs; or,
• Lectureships.

ICRH is committed to promoting the inclusion and advancement of groups underrepresented in science as one of the means to enhance excellence in research, training and knowledge mobilization. To be relevant to the competition applications must address all three (3) objectives.

• Support interdisciplinary research teams to improve scientific understanding of mpox (monkeypox) virus and/or other orthopoxviruses; and
• Generate and mobilize evidence to inform prevention, control, and/or response efforts by policy makers, clinicians, public health actors and/or higher-risk communities in Canada and/or globally; and
• Build and strengthen capacity in Canada to undertake interdisciplinary research on viral zoonotic infections of domestic or global origins.

The future is now! Contributions Program launches annual call for proposals for research  and awareness projects

The Office of the Privacy Commissioner of Canada (OPC) has issued a call for proposals for its Contributions Program, which funds innovative research and public awareness initiatives that seek to better understand and address key and emerging issues related to privacy.

This year, the OPC is calling for proposals answering to the theme “The future is now! Assessing and managing the privacy impacts of immersive and embeddable technologies.” By "immersive" we mean technologies that merge the physical and virtual worlds, and by "embeddable" we refer to technologies that are capable of reaching deep inside an individual and deducing – or interpreting – their very essence.

To be eligible for funding, proposals must address issues that fall within the scope of the federal Personal Information Protection and Electronic Documents Act (PIPEDA), which sets the ground rules for how organizations may collect, use or disclose information about individuals in the course of commercial activities. Applicants are encouraged to get a sense of previous or ongoing projects funded under the Program when developing their proposals.

The OPC Contributions Program is structured to fund projects that are initiated and completed within a single fiscal year (April 1, 2023, to March 31, 2024), although some exceptions may be made for multi-year projects where applicants can demonstrate that more time is required.

All proposals must be submitted by February 10, 2023. They will be evaluated on the basis of merit.

HFSP Research Grants support innovative basic research into fundamental biological problems with emphasis placed on novel and interdisciplinary approaches that involve scientific exchanges across national and disciplinary boundaries (see guidelines).

Participation of scientists from disciplines outside the traditional life sciences such as biophysics, chemistry, computational biology, computer science, engineering, mathematics, nanoscience or physics is recommended because such collaborations have opened up new approaches for understanding the complex structures and regulatory networks that characterize living organisms, their evolution and interactions.

Research grants are provided for teams of scientists from different countries who wish to combine their expertise in innovative approaches to questions that could not be answered by individual laboratories. Preliminary results are not required and applicants are expected to develop new lines of research through the research collaboration.

It is understood that such research inherently contains risks and HFSP expects that teams of applicants address the risks and outline mitigation strategies for their research in case of failure and how they intend to achieve their goals.

Applications for applied research, including medical research typically funded by national medical research bodies, will be deemed ineligible (see guidelines).

Two types of Grant are available: Research Grants – Early Career and Research Grants – Program.

• relationships for potential research, education, and engagement partnership initiatives between Indigenous and Northern regions and researchers, faculty, staff, and students of UArctic member institutions
• partnership projects that meet the needs of Indigenous and Northern people and communities.

The purpose of this fund is to help researchers establish new relationships or strengthen existing ones. These relationships are important in order to develop collaborative, co-created research projects based on mutual respect and acknowledgment of the deep understanding and knowledge Indigenous and Northern people bring to such projects as well as ensuring that the academic research and engagement projects meet the needs of the people and the regions where such research takes place.
