Strategic Partnership Grants for Networks (SPG‑N) fund large-scale, multidisciplinary research projects in targeted research areas that require a network approach and that involve collaboration between academic researchers and Canadian-based organizations. The applicant should be an established researcher with a solid track record in collaborative research, student training and grant management, and who demonstrates the leadership and other skills necessary for managing a complex, interdisciplinary, multi-institutional project.

Strategic Networks may be national, regional or, under exceptional circumstances, local. NSERC has two application categories—A and B.

1. The proposed network will investigate a new collection of research objectives that do not build on previous network-scale activities and that have never been funded through a NSERC network grant, a Networks of Centres of Excellence (NCE) grant, or other federal or provincial network-scale granting programs. The application must include a one page justification for the fit to Category A.  In this case, the network applies for SPG‑N funds between $500,000 and $1 million in Year 1, and $500,000 and $1.125 million per year in Years 2 through 5, for a maximum request of $5.5 million.
2. The proposed network will build upon a collection of research objectives that have been previously funded through a NSERC network grant, an NCE grant, or other federal or provincial network-scale granting programs. To be eligible to compete in Category B, the network partners must collectively assume more responsibility for funding the network (compared to the previously funded network) to support its research and administration activities. For every dollar contributed to the network by eligible industry and government partners, up to three dollars can be requested from NSERC (e.g., $300,000 per year of partner cash would allow for a request of up to $900,000 per year of NSERC funding). Other contributions to the network are encouraged (e.g., other funding agencies, university support), but are not included in the leveraging of NSERC funds. The network can request NSERC funding between $500,000 and $1 million in Year 1, and between $500,000 and $1.125 million per year in Years 2 through 5, for a maximum request of $5.5 million.

Today, January 12, 2017, the Alberta Ministry of Labour is announcing its fourth year of the Occupational Health and Safety (OHS) Futures – Research Funding Program. OHS Futures formalizes the way researchers, institutions, industry, and labour organizations across Canada access funding for OHS research. The program links government with experts for the purpose of enhancing OHS knowledge and capacity within the province. 

 

NEW this year, OHS Futures is accepting notices of intent for projects that support the prevention of occupational injury, illness and disease in Alberta workplaces. The notice of intent submission period opens today (the notice of intent template is available on the OHS Futures website) and closes February 12, 2017.

 

• Please note that if you do not submit a notice of intent you will not be eligible to apply for OHS Futures grant funding.
• Once the notice of intent is submitted, it will be reviewed to ensure that it is complete, that the proposed research project meets the eligibility criteria and research priorities, and that the proposed research is pertinent to workers and workplaces in Alberta.
• Success at this stage will result in an invitation to submit an application. The invitation to submit a full application form does not guarantee funding. A completed application is required, and will be adjudicated accordingly.
• OHS Program staff are here to provide feedback on your notice of intent and to mentor you through the application process. Meetings will be set up to discuss your research idea prior to you completing the full application.

The Responsive Grants Program enables The Law Foundation of Ontario to fund ideas generated by non-profit community groups to improve access to justice. These grants have provided seed funding for hundreds of innovative projects across Ontario.

Responsive Grants range from $5,000 to $100,000.

Founded in 2015, BioCanRx (Biotherapeutics for Cancer Treatment) is a not-for-profit organization with a mission to improve outcomes for cancer patients by accelerating the development of cost-effective and curative biotherapies. BioCanRx was awarded seed funding of $25 million from the federal government’s Networks of Centres of Excellence (NCE) Program, and has attracted additional tens of millions from partners in all sectors of the economy.

BioCanRx supports biotherapeutic development research through four research programs and a number of core facilities that are accessible to all members of the BioCanRx network. Three of the research programs (Catalyst Projects, Enabling Studies, Clinical Trials) are designed to reflect the translational focus of BioCanRx, which organizes its investments into a pipeline-like structure common to the biotechnology industry. The fourth program (Clinical, Social, and Economic Impact Program) funds research into issues of scientific methodology, clinical trial design, patient engagement, health economics and commercial viability of BioCanRx biotherapeutic platforms and technologies. All research programs are targeted toward applicants who have already made substantial advances in their basic research programs and are now ready to work in collaborative, multidisciplinary, academic–industry teams to move their discoveries into the clinic in a rational, scientifically well-supported and highly disciplined fashion.

OCE and Sustainable Development Technology Canada Call for Expressions of Interest: For this call for applications, the Funders have partnered to accept Expressions of Interest from Canadian small and medium enterprises who request funding for an innovative technology development and demonstration project for GHG reduction technologies. SMEs are responsible for large amounts of innovation and are a source of many new GHG reduction technologies. The SMEs are required to develop Consortium Partnerships which may include, industrial large emitters, other SMEs, large enterprises and academic institutions.  The goal is to accelerate commercialization of technologies that benefit Ontario, Canada and globally through GHG reductions, enterprise development, and economic growth.

Universities can participate in projects submitted by small and medium enterprises.
