CIHR is currently conducting engagement activities with the research community to discuss their new design and next steps as they implement significant changes to the process and structure of CIHR. Our meeting is scheduled with CIHR on April 14, 2015 (details to follow). Please plan to attend and hold the date in your calendar.

As your CIHR university delegate, I would like to invite you to a meeting to share your thoughts and experiences on CIHR’s new design and next steps on Friday March 27 from 11:00 a.m.-1:00 p.m. This meeting will be important to ensure that we can have a unified voice and express key messages to CIHR when we have our meeting with them. It will also provide an opportunity for networking and to discuss continued engagement and collaboration among CIHR researchers across Lakehead University.

Call for Posters: Faculty Poster Presentations as Part of R&I Week 2015 Awards Reception

We invite faculty members to help us celebrate the 10th anniversary of Research and Innovation Week!

To make this year's R&I Week extra special, we will be hosting faculty poster displays on Thursday, March 12, 2015 in the Faculty Lounge as part of the Research and Innovation Week Awards Reception (Thunder Bay Campus).

Participation will be by poster only as a means of promoting faculty research and innovation. 

As space for this event is limited (only 30 poster boards are available and each participant will receive one poster board) we would request that faculty members complete the registration form and return it via email to Mr. Andrew Hacquoil, Research Grants Officer, in the Office of Research Services, ahacquo1@lakeheadu.ca  no later than February 12, 2015.

Annual Research and Innovation Week Poster Competition for Postdoctoral Fellows

Postdoctoral fellows currently engaged in research at Lakehead University are invited to participate in the Annual Research and Innovation Week Poster Competition for Postdoctoral Fellows.   A Panel of Reviewers will judge and adjudicate all eligible posters for first, second and third places. For each of the categories, namely, NSERC, SSHRC, and CIHR, there should a minimum of three poster participants to qualify for the first, second and third placement within the relevant category.

NSERC Discovery Grant Webinar

Please note that there will be an NSERC Discovery Grant information webinar on September 5, 2014 in AT5035 from 10-12.  The session will be presented by an NSERC program officer in Ottawa.  The session will provide an overview of NSERC news along with insights about the grant review process, and how to prepare an effective Discovery Grant application.

SSHRC Connections Grant Workshop

Are you looking to organize or host any of the following events or outreach activities to help disseminate your research?

You might be eligible for a Connections Grant from the Social Sciences and Humanities Research Council (SSHRC). This workshop will provide an introduction to the SSHRC Connections Grant program and include a walkthrough of the application process through the SSHRC web portal.

Other activities eligible for a Connections Grant include:

  • Adaptations of text (incl. translation to English, French or Aboriginal languages)
  • Development of policy briefs
  • Development of articles for newspapers or magazines
  • Virtual networking
  • Media events
  • Public debates
  • Artistic exhibits, performances, or festivals
  • Development/use of interactive technologies, audio-visual products, or software
  • Development/use of educational aids, instruments or equipment

The workshop will be on July 2nd, 2014 from 10am to 12pm in ATAC 3004 and OA2005.
