PSYC 5011-FA Forensic Psychology
An in-depth orientation to the field of forensic psychology. Including ethics and clinical practice specific to forensic work, police investigations, false confessions, eye witness testimony, assessing criminal culpability, child custody/ parenting capacity assessments, use of forensic assessment instruments, risk assessments, writing forensic reports, and providing expert testimony in court. The role of psychological services within the correctional system, the ways in which individual and situational factors relate to criminal behaviour, and the role of psychological interventions in reducing recidivism will also be covered. Evidence-based clinical techniques will form the foundation of evaluations, report writing, and expert testimony. Emphasis will be given to the contribution that psychology can make to the legal decision-making process and the correctional system.

PSYC 5151 Multivariate Statistics for Behavioural Research
This course will focus on various advanced statistical techniques that can be used in psychological research. Topics will include multiple regression, factor analysis, cluster analysis, structural modeling, discriminant function analysis, multivariate analysis of variance, meta-analysis, canonical correlation, sequential analyses, and loglinear modeling.

PSYC 6011-FA Dialectical Behavioural Therapy
Examination of theoretical perspectives, empirical foundations, and treatment strategies of Dialectical Behaviour Therapy (DBT). Students will learn about theoretical foundations, various modes of treatment, and core skills. Students will demonstrate their knowledge and acquired skills through course-based session planning and discussion, skill demonstration, and reflection. Students may have an opportunity to apply their skills through community-based practica (e.g., co-facilitating a DBT skills training group).

This course provides a broad overview of the multidisciplinary field of sleep psychology, introducing fundamental concepts linking sleep to biological health, cognitive function, and behaviour. In this course, students will survey the "normative science" of sleep, including its history, research methods, and neurobiology, and explore how sleep patterns evolve across the lifespan from infancy to aging. Finally, the course provides a general introduction to clinical perspectives, covering major sleep-wake disorders and the relationship between sleep pathology and mental health.

Introduces the core principles of psychology, emphasizing the research-based methods essential to the discipline. Students will gain an understanding of how these processes shape human experience and behavior, establishing a basis for further study in psychology’s core areas and sub-specialties.

Builds on the principles of psychopharmacology and examines the psychopharmacology of specific psychoactive drugs and drug classes (e.g., opioids, cannabis, cocaine, antidepressants). Drugs will be examined in terms of their pharmacokinetics, pharmacodynamics, effects on the body and behaviour, tolerance and dependence, and therapeutic applications. Research on drug effects in both humans and animal models is critically examined and discussed.

Their limitations will also be discussed. Suited to students interested in graduate studies in clinical or counselling psychology. Selection of specific topics may vary from year to year.
