International Student Services

FREE AIRPORT PICK-UP
Sign up in advance, and we are happy to welcome you to the city at the start of the semester and arrange transportation from the airport.

NEW STUDENT ORIENTATION
Make lifelong friends, discover the university's support systems, and explore the culture of your new home away from home through exciting in-person events and pre-arrival online sessions.

PEER MENTORING
As a new international student, you can take advantage of our complimentary Peer Mentor Program where we connect you with an upper-year student who will help guide you at Lakehead.

THE HUB OF CAMPUS
Our Thunder Bay campus International Centre is the meeting place for students from all over the world. Meet between classes to study, play Xbox, watch a soccer game, or join one of the many special events held each week.

INTERNATIONAL STUDENT ADVISING
Receive culturally relevant advising on academics, personal matters, finances, health insurance, community services and help with navigating university supports.

IMMIGRATION ADVISING
Get guidance on study/work permits, visitor visas, and eTAs from our licensed Regulated International Student Immigration Advisors (RISIA) and Regulated Canadian Immigration Consultants (RCIC) certified by the College of Immigration Consultants of Canada (CICC).

EXCURSIONS
Get to know students from all over the world while you explore your new hometown through fun activities and outings.

Financial

Knowing how to manage your finances at university is important. In addition to knowing how to create and stick to a budget, Lakehead also offers financial aid opportunities through scholarships, bursaries and awards.

First Year Experiences

Your first few days at Lakehead will be filled with Orientation activities and events that will help introduce you to your new university. These will provide you with the opportunity to meet new friends, explore the campus and become comfortable in your new space. We also will introduce you to what it means to be a student and the important role you play in the community.

Lakehead University Student Union

The Lakehead University Student Union (LUSU) is a democratic, not-for-profit corporation with the sole purpose of serving and supporting the students of Lakehead University. They care about the comprehensive well-being of our community, and work hard to provide students with safe and inclusive spaces, economical services and benefits, and a diverse variety of fun events and clubs to participate in year-round.  They offer a number of services including:

Lakehead promotes a healthy and active campus lifestyle while providing you with the opportunity to foster friendships, goodwill and overall fitness at both of our campuses. Whether you choose to join a team, or you just want to get active for the health of it, you'll find what you're looking for. Lakehead offers a variety of competitive men's and women's varsity and club-level sports teams, intramurals and ways to get active just for the fun of it.
