Join us as we “Welcome the World” for International Education Week! Celebrate with Lakehead University International as we kick off International Education Week (IEW), an annual event that is celebrated by over 100 nations around the globe. The week is focused on strengthening the understanding of international education and celebrating its importance.

We invite all Lakehead community members to come and see what's in store for the week. 

Join us in the Agora for culture sharing, activities, trivia, music, popcorn, and photo fun! Sign up for our Global Runway event on Friday. Visit our LUI tables to learn more about International Student Services & the students we support, Global ME programming, English Language Centre & IELTS, International Enrolment, and Research. All are welcome to join us in the Agora!

Description: 

It’s a non-stop open house for all students (international and domestic), staff, and faculty in the International Student Centre. Stop by the ground floor of the Chancellor Paterson Library all week long.  Join in some creative activities, test your international knowledge, have some fun with flags, pose for some photos, sign up for our Global Runway event, and enjoy a treat. All are welcome!

Our Lakehead students are excited to invite you to a special theatre play titled, Divided by Borders, Bound by Struggles: The Journey of International Students in Canada prepared by the talented students of the Master of Education program as part of their course on Activism in Education.

This performance sheds light on the experiences, challenges, and resilience of international students in Canada, offering a powerful narrative that resonates with the broader themes of migration, identity, and activism. We look forward to your presence at this meaningful event, which aims to foster deeper understanding and solidarity within our university community.

Walk the red carpet and share your culture on our Global Runway! Whether you wear traditional attire or something that represents your home country, we want you to showcase your culture.  We invite all students, staff, and faculty to dress in their traditional attire on November 22 and come strut their cultural couture down our red-carpeted runway. Join us to cheer on our culture and diversity. Coffee and cake will be served after the show. 

Interested in walking the red carpet? Here’s what to do: 

1. Decide what you would like to wear for the Global Runway. It can be traditional attire or something that represents your culture or country.

2. Sign up for the event! Don’t want to walk the carpet by yourself? Then, gather your friends and sign up as a group.

3. Once you sign up, we’ll email your Lakehead email for more details about the event. 

Sign-up is required to walk the runway.

This session is for current international students at Lakehead University who will require a study permit extension. You must keep your study permit active the entire time you study in Canada and always apply for an extension before it expires. Join our International Student Advisor to learn more about the process and what is required.
